I have 3 of these, updated firmwares and newer version of the app seem to work fine now. Had them on for about 3 months now gathering data and no problems really. Sure they are slow to send out the data when battery powered so not good if you want realtime data. I'm thinking about DIYing a usb/regulator to power them on constantly in some locations, the USB cap probably just has a regulator and some contacts to push on the battery terminals. I'm surprised they soldered that header on which does not seem to do anything?

Can this work directly with a TRADFRI smart bulb? Brought one on an impulse as it was discounted down to £5for TRADFRI E27 bulb + STYRBAR remote together in a single box! bulb and remote separately cost more than double.

You need an IKEA hub for this unless you have home assistant with a zigbee interface.

I was moving to a new house and have to set up my stuff first, I have some more new devices to film. If the pads on the board are not damaged you can resolder it but you will need a very fine tip. I may have to make a video about this.

@@leosedf I'm sure I replied, not sure what happened to it... Glad you'll be making more videos, defo subbed for those, your voice is nice to listen to. I think the switch itself has broken, rather than the connection of it on the board. I've thrown it in the bin and hopped on AliExpress! I'm bad at soldering anyway.

@leosedf
@leosedf 2 жыл бұрын
Hello my friend, i don't think you can connect anything to this sensor unless you are aqara your self. You have to modify firmware etc and have to be really good at soldering. It would be far easier to develop your own zigbee device.

Thanks for the great teardown. Do you think its possible to have multiple (5 ?) IKEA Tradfri Shortcut button pair with 1 single IKEA Tradfri Wireless Control Outlet. Do you think Is this possible, please ?
@leosedf
@leosedf 2 жыл бұрын
I think you will have to have a gateway of some sort. Either IKEA one or home assistant. On home assistant I am pretty much sure you can do it
@Softwaremaker
@Softwaremaker 2 жыл бұрын
@@leosedf Thank you ! Somehow I dont think its the gateway even though I use it (HUE Zigbee Bridge). They can both pair - and I believe the pairing is done with the device itself. There is no need for the bridge. You add the bridge if you need to add more workflows and configuration. The question is whether there is anything specific about the Shortcut button (remote) that is unique for each of them. Because if I want to have many Shortcut buttons paired to a single Tradfri plug, can the plug remember all of them ?
@leosedf
@leosedf 2 жыл бұрын
@@Softwaremaker Ah yes. You can definitely do it with home assistant though. I don't think you can pair two devices directly on one receiver.
@Softwaremaker
@Softwaremaker 2 жыл бұрын
@@leosedf Thanks. This one is worth further investigating. All docs point to the IKEA Tradfri Shortcut button being able to pair up to 10 Tradfri devices. So - My question is opposite. Is memory kept on the shortcut button but not on the device ? There is use for this use case / scenarios. You can (should) have 2 or more shortcut buttons connect to a switch or a plug that is in the staircase landing. That is the function of a 2 way switch controlling the same light.
@leosedf
@leosedf 2 жыл бұрын
@@Softwaremaker Hm i never tried to use that with more devices because i use HA but you are right probably the memory is in that button it self. Have you tried it to see what's going on? Have a look at the manual, i don't have it here with me to check it.

I haven't tried the mains powered devices, those must be fine since they don't have a sleep problem like this one. Believe me i tried so many times to make it work properly i don't think it's usable in a smart home system. It simply cannot work with the efficiency of low power sensors like zigbee or zwave.

@@leosedf it's the device not the wireless protocol i have the Govee wifi temp sensor and man do those batteries last. more than 3 months on 15 to 30 minute refresh/update interval. no home assistant support though, unless you have bluetooth. z wave and zigbee is getting be a pain in the ass as you can't find any wifi devices. Also low wan/LPwan and lora wan are far suprerior to z wav or zigbee they havea range of mile(s) through metal, concrete and earth. one guy set up his lorawan on his bench and whent to the grocery store to test the range and it worked.
