Great stuff loved this…I’d love to know how you came to live in the uk and more over how you’ve ended up on the canal. Please to a vlog about this I think this would be a great interest to everyone 😊

Hi and good evening. Bow thrusters are widely used on narrowboats this days. Verulam is an old lady and she do not have this new equipped fitted. Kirstie

Thanks so much for the comments. If I was moored on port side of the canal, The force of the wind would still push me the same direction I turned to. If I was moored on a river I could also only used the flow and force of the river to turn the boat without any engine or bow truster. On a big river is always recommended to always moor up against the flow of the river. Because if you moor up with the flow is sometimes almost impossible to push the bow away from the riverbank or pontoon. Verulam do not have a bow truster. I hope this would answer some of your questions. Wish you all a lovely day Kirstie

Shows how much they're affected by wind. Wouldn't it be difficult of the wind was blowing the other way? You'd have to use the offside bank I guess?
@kirstiestravelsonnarrowboa447726 күн бұрын
Hi and good evening. To turn how I was doing, the wind needed to be blowing that way I turned too. If not it would been impossible task. Most times I use my engine though. You are right about how affected Narrowboats are about windy conditions. The wind can be rely problematic. On narrow canals, we normally use a winding hole, a part of the canal some are widen, To turn our Narrowboats . My boat is only 47 foot so i can normally turn more easy on broad canal`s. Kirstie

We had it one year when there had been a leak and levels were very low and you had to travel in the middle of the cut for several miles until the BWB as was topped up the levels and on another occasion, whilst travelling through Brum, they were moving excess water via the canals from one reservoir to another and to work through the locks, you had to wade through a couple of feet of water to even get to the then difficult to move lock gates. But you learn to work around such occurencies

Really love your videos Kirstie. My late partner and I travelled 2600 miles on our nb Merlot over seven seasons. We hoped to get to Liverpool in our last year, but only made it as far as Manchester before his ill health and time made up have to go back to the Kennet and Avon. The boat was sold the next spring. We made so many friends and shared so many moments, it was the best time of my life. Thank you so much for reminding me, and sharing the love. x
