Every city in Lithuania was inhabited by polish or jewish people (lithuanians lived in villages around the city), but that doesn't mean it wasn't lithuanian city as it is located in Lithuania.

Kôitsu_ Lithuania was a Polish region
@podroznikwysublimowany16998 жыл бұрын
Kôitsu_ I was wrong. I meant Lithuania was a Polish country not a region. The entire country was ruled by an elected Polish king.
@podroznikwysublimowany16998 жыл бұрын
Kôitsu_ No, POLISH king, that was also a Duke of Lithuania, Polotsk, Samogitia and Prussia. And it was always reffered to as Polish king. The Lithuania that was a Polish Duchy was much different than todays Lithuania, because it was majority Russian country with Russian peasantry and Polish municipal inhabitants and nobility. The Samogitia as was then is a country that made this "Lithuania" to be existent. And that's why I think many countries should change their names. Like Macedonia, that has nothing common with historical Macedonia.

@dariusjo8 жыл бұрын
No, that is not true. The name of the city is "Klaipėda". We, lithuanians, have been calling it this way for ages. The name "Klaipėda" was first mentioned in year 1413. It was mentioned in a letter of Lithuanian great duke Vytautas. The letter was addressed to the pope. Vytautas complained that german knights had invaded the lands that belong to Žemaitija (a.k.a. Samogitia) and that the city belongs to Lithuania. Just like many other lithuanians, he was trying to regain the lands that were ripped off from us. The very fact that germans has occupied Prussia and some parts of Samogitia, does not make the lands german. Also, it is worth to mention, that even though the city and the lands were officially a part of Prussia (not the real Prussia, but the german one), it was hugely inhabited by lithuanians (especially rural parts of the region). Due to this fact germans themselves called Eastern Prussia (including Klaipėda) as Kleinlitauen (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithuania_Minor).

it's Lithuanian capital...
@podroznikwysublimowany16999 жыл бұрын
+Koit “Wolkun” Wolken It is today's Lithuanian capital, because Lithuania took the former Polish land with Wilno and then expulsed it's original Polish citizens and colonized it by Lithuanian immigrants. Lithuania then renamed city from Wilno to Vilnius and established it as a Lithuanian capital.
@podroznikwysublimowany16999 жыл бұрын
Koit Wolken Grand Duchy of Lithuania was a Polish established and Polish ruled duchy as a integral part of Poland. (King of Poland was also a Grand Duke of Lithuania) Wilno from the beggining was build and ruled by Poles. It was established and build by King of Poland Władysław Jagiełło which located this city under Magdeburg Law. Polish bishop Andrzej Jastrzębiec established archydiecesy and gave the town the full city right. The city then flourished and developing well. Under Polish rule it hold also a large portion of Jewish population migration to Poland looking for safety. The Jewish population then were entirely killed by germans and lithuanians who did a horrible number of pogroms on the Jew population. After 1945 when the city was occupied by Lithuanians and 90% Polish city was expulsed from Poles by Lithuanians and Lithuanian colonizers went to former Polish houses. Grabbing, stealing and destroying what Poles used to have. Lithuania was a really horrible country. No wonder, Lithuanians are Balts after all.
@eruno_9 жыл бұрын
Podróżnik Wysublimowany what is wrong being a balt? And your history is completely untrue, check some facts on wikipedia or encyclopedias on history of Lithuania. I am not even lithuanian and I know this.
@podroznikwysublimowany16999 жыл бұрын
Koit Wolken All I had was from Wikipedia. There is nothing wrong from being a Balt, though. But Balts were always very scary. Even today Lithuanians and Latvians look very scary, they wear adidas and drink beer. Lithuanians did pogroms on Jews and expulsed Poles from their homes. This is undoubtful. That's how Wilno was renamed Vilnius and it's now lithuanian capital. Also Lithuanian second largest city Kaunas used to be Kowno and hold 65% of Polish population before Lithuania became independent.
