And wood is not waterproof
@shelby504116 жыл бұрын
The wood structure may be as strong as 1/4 aluminum but its about 1/50th the cost and as we all know wood moves substantially with temp and humidity....thats a poor cheap made machine and cost is ridiculous high....

Great video! I want to do this on my X5 which is essentially the same thing. Did you disconnect the battery? Remove fuses? Do anything special to Discharge static electricity from the vehicle before playing with the airbags? I’m afraid of accidentally setting the side curtains off when trying to get to the bolt underneath. Thanks for the info and keep up with the great videos!

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to do this video. I am going to install rails on my X3. I have a couple of questions. 1) regarding the clips. In video you said you removed them, but in the retrofit kit it says that 14 clips are used? 2nd question, the rails I picked up have a rubber sealing plug for around the studs. Did you put any additional sealer, like silicone too? Thanks
@przemdooh22897 жыл бұрын
Hi. Did you remove the clips ? I instaled rails without clips like in this video but i have doubts too.
@alanz31387 жыл бұрын
Przem Dooh , I did not need to remove the clips when I installed my rails. I also did not have to remove the clip holding the side curtain airbag. I was able to move the airbag fabric out of the way of the hole with my finger in order to get the socket with the nut up into the hole. One thing I did do when installing nuts onto studs was to use some electrical tape to hold the nut to the socket to prevent the nut from falling out of socket. I did this because the first nut I tried installing fell out of socket while going up into hole of body. Took me a while to fish it out.

Ryan which the name of the bearing with a "gap" in the middle? hugs Marcus / Brazil
@hedlambert8 жыл бұрын
MARCUS VINICIUS . O rolamento pode ser o RM2-2RS ou procure por v-groove bearing para outras medidas. Você vai achar no ML por R$ 56,00 mais o frete cada, mas na amazon você deve achar 20 por US 49,00. Boa sorte!

Great video, with very helpful information. One question : did you seal the holes for the new rail with anything, before tightening it down?
@alanz31387 жыл бұрын
sanok108 , I just installed the rails onto my 2014 X3, video was very helpful. I purchase my rails from a auto salvage yard and they came with the rubber gaskets on the studs but I still put a bead of silicone around the holes to ensure no leaks. One other note, Kit Yankees never mentioned about the rear passenger lights in the headliner. They don't need to be removed. Secondly, I didn't need to unplug any of the wires for the center map light roof console. Once I dropped the headliner I just slide the unit though the hole of the headliner to get it out of the way. I hope this helps.

This is an answer to William Thixton's question (the new comment system for KZbin is incredibly frustrating! took me an hour just to get this far). The bearing number for the "doubler" bearings is: 6200-2RS (10x30x9 mm). I got mine from USABearings Supply.com in Ann Arbor MI but there are many places that sell this size, including Amazon. This size matches well with the V-groove bearings used for these CNC machines. Good luck.
@maillooker11 жыл бұрын
can you tell the number of the bearing you used thanks
@neonamps11 жыл бұрын
I can't say exactly what the effect might be but these ball bearings are designed for many millions of revolutions. One web site seemed to indicate that adding a small axial load, such as happens with this modification, will have very little effect on the bearing's life so I suspect the impact is basically negligible.
@neonamps11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, Bailey. He's done some good tweaks, including one that I used for pressing the bearings up in their slots. He says his machine is good and tight now so maybe he has better ball bearings than I do. I appreciate your interest!

I just built my first CNC machine and found way too much play at the end of the router bit. so I started researching why I had this play on an otherwise well built machine. Then i found your videos and double checked my set up and found all most all my play was the result of the same issues you identified in your videos. MANY THANKS for your efforts to share how you solved the problem. It solved mine as well. Again, MANY THANKS !!!

excellent results... How would you rate your satisfaction with the chain based driving... versus leadscrews... or rack... is it reasonably durable? it seems kind of ugly.. but very cost effective.... Thank you for the excellent video... I wish you had more insight and videos to share.
