Most of them(filipinos outside the greater manila) speak at least 3 language/dialect which is cool. I feel dumb cause I can only speak 2 😢.
@krisho472 күн бұрын
true. Especially if you live in a region with different main languages spoken per province. You will learn more than just 3. For example, here in Region 12, locals from the northern part of South Cotabato and majority of Sultan Kudarat speaks Hiligaynon (Ilonggo), but the other half of the region are predominantly Bisaya. Hence, because people travel to and fro between these provinces, people can switch languages depending on the place's main language. Not to mention that there are also locals who speak other languages like Ilocano, Tagalog, Muslim, and others. They know even more: the language they speak at home, the community's language, and the neighboring cities'/town's language.

Blame that on our education system. In schools, the subject is called Filipino, and the medium of dialect they teach is Tagalog.
@b4k3t6 күн бұрын
@@statixfearnot to disappoint you, our education system also failed you. Tagalog is a language 😭. One of the eight main languages that pillars the filipino language. Dialect is more of quezon tagalog and bulacan tagalog.
@Zombi4SaRap4 күн бұрын
Guys, this isn't hard. Filipino is a dialect of Tagalog. It's the standardized version taught throughout the archipelago to serve as a bridge language for everyone who doesn't natively speak Tagalog. The biggest crime of the education system is not clarifying the difference languages and dialects, making it seem like dialects are every Philippine language not considered the national language.
@b4k3t4 күн бұрын
@@Zombi4SaRap im sorry, im not being rude, just clarifying, Filipino is a language. You said it yourself its a bridge language, a lingua franca for Filipinos. Dialects are little to average changes in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary due to geographical differences. Language on the other hand has a unique set of grammar, vocabulary, and morphism. Bisaya and Filipino have a unique vocabulary, grammar and morphism. An example of a dialect for bisaya would be Cebuano, Boholano, and Davaoeño.

@@moritzscwarzhen2434 in that case, maybe she's not originally from Samar. Possible as well she studied/lived in Cebu or somewhere Bisaya and getting things mixed up. Only she can clarify what's up. @@bons244 True. Waray is another sub-dialect for the Visayan language, along w/cebuano(bisaya) and hiligaynon(ilonggo). I had some filipino friends that were from Samar during my college life in ph. Shockingly, we spoke to each other in bisaya. Is Waray like a main dialect or some sort of conyo-stuff in Eastern Visayas? I also watched rae's ph vlog, it was weird for me to understand what the ppl in the background and her mom were saying even though I don't speak any Waray, just bisaya and english. My mom is from Cebu while my dad is American if you're asking.

Yeah it's where you read the word in reverse, for example, in bisaya "tae"(read as ta-eh) means poop do when you say it in the gay slang it becomes "eatch"(eh-atch), the 'ch' at the end is just flavor suffix that they normally use. Sometimes they also reverse the order of syllables instead of the letters. I know quite a bit about this considering my aunt has A LOT of gay friends so I was exposed to this lingo/slang from quite a young age.

Bisaya as a language is a misnomer, there is no such thing as the Bisaya language - just Bisaya languageS. There is Cebuano, which is what people think of when they say Bisaya [language] - probably due to how widespread it is, but it is NOT Bisaya [the non-existent language], just Cebuano.
