The reason is they use two artificial sweeteners Sucralose Acesulfame potassium (ace-k), which can't be absorded into the body or broken down. It circulates in your blood stream until it passes out in urine. So, it's not at all healthy for an adult, let alone a kid.

Yeah, it's not healthy in the slightest. It's a marketing tactic to get you to buy it. Let's ignore the fact that Prime hydration is included in it. I can go on a tangent about how Prime by itself is unhealthy. Laced with artificial sweeteners, one being acesulfame potassium, which can't be broken down or absorded into your body, and circulates in your blood stream til it passes through your urine. The lunchly itself is not a "healthier" option than a lunchable. 1) There is a serving size difference, which makes it look like lunchly has better nutritional value. Lunchly serving size 72g Lunchables serving size 82g 2)There is not a proper nutritional fact sheet on their website. It's all flashy wording and no actual facts. The electrolyte content is false. It's actually more than 400mg because they don't include the sodium from the meal kit. Just the potassium contained in the Prime drink. Sodium is an electrolyte which should be included but isn't. 3)The lunchables are cheaper in comparison to a lunchly. Almost half the price for a one with a drink. No drink lunchables=$1.97 Lunchables w/drink=$2.97 (can be cheaper depending on what store you go to) Lunchables uploaded which is a sub or deep dish pizza w/bottled water, drink mix, chips/cheez its, and a sweet treat=$4.32 Which brings me back to the serving size difference I pointed out. More money for less product compared to lunchables. So, yeah this product is a cash grab marketing gimmick to make money.

The US nutritional guidelines for kids states they need over 600 calories for enough energy to properly function through the day. If I remember right, they'd have to eat 2.7, so say 3, lunchly products to get that. Now, per the guidelines, lunchly also lacks all the other proper nutritional requirements for a kids' diet. So they would be lacking everything else even if they got the caloric intake from ingesting 3 lunchlys. Same for lunchables. So, the idea this is marketed as a "healthier" product is total BS.

Lunchly already has a very small difference in nutritional value compared to lunchables. If you added the 10g serving to lunchly they'd be the same if not more. Also, they do not list all the nutritional information. The electrolytes are misinformation that come from the prime drink. It states on their website that the electrolyte content is 400mg, but that is only the potassium content in the prime drink. The drink itself has 5mg of sodium which makes the total electrolytes 405mg just for the drink. Pediatrician do not recommend kids ingest large amounts of electrolytes. Also kids per the nutritional guidelines of the US state that kids need over 600 calories to properly function and maintain energy throughout the day. In order to acheive that a kid would need to consume 3 lunchly products because they contain half the caloric intake per serving a kid needs. Also, per the guidelines everything about lunchly is unhealthy to kids same as lunchables. Watch doctor Mike talk about the "healthly" lunchly. It's very informative on the nutrition of the product.

It's mainly about convenience having everything in one pack and grab and go. Throw it in a backpack, lunch box, etc. and off you go. The average american (myself included) don't eat a balanced diet and sometimes we skip on breakfast etc. for the sake of time/effort. Also, there's the nostalgia from having them as kids or being raised on them. I normally don't by them and do what you suggest cause it is cheaper doing it that way. But, again, convenience and nostalgia. I might pick up a lunchable if I'm feeling it for that reason. By no means are they healthy nor is lunchly for that matter. In fact, lunchly is worse than lunchables in that regard.

The store brand one of something similar with no drink cost roughly $1.50. My nephews like the Lunchable cracker ones, with no drink or sweets, for an afterschool snack. Cost about a dollar...still expensive for a couple of crackers, imo. 🤷🏻‍♀ But it is just a snack.

When you add it all together, it’s a gross chemical soup.. Just the prime hydration alone has artificial sweeteners that have unknown effects on kids’ brains and our insulin response, then they throw in the cheap synthetic forms of vitamins which have greater potential for toxicity and aren’t as useful for our bodies as other forms of things like vitamin A. But adding that in with a super-sugary chocolate bar and other ultra processed “food products”, it’s not good.
