What an incredible interview by the OuzoTalk boys. Memories of these Euros brings so much emotion, getting up early and heading to the then Mythos in Leichhardt, showing the games live. They won against the host nation twice, the previous Euro champions and 1998 WC winners, and the favourites to win that year(Czechs) Captain Zagorakis, incredible cross in France game, and the Charisteas header, perfect technique. George Clooney in goals, coach King Otto Rehagel. So many moments. Brighton during celebrations with my family unforgettable. Greece simply deserved that title. It is still a huge story to tell.

“When the entire world had lost all hope, the Greek people dared to question the invincibility of the German monster raising against it the proud spirit of freedom.” Franklin Roosevelt 👏🏽

I have been in and out of Greece for the last 10 years. As of two years ago my family and I officially moved here. There isn’t a day that goes by that I am not touch by the spirit of the Greek people. It is an honour and a privilege to call this my home away from home. I come from a family of Syrian and Iraqi Jews who fled their homelands. The Syrians escaped because of the Turks during WW1. The Iraqis escaped when the government became pro Nazi. This was one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world. They had been in “Babylon” for over 3,000 years… Among another ancient Jewish community was that of Crete, which had been there for 2,500 years before being exterminated by the Germans. The Greek people feel to me like cousins. The Greek spirit reminds me of the spirit in the early days of present day Israel when we were outnumbered and outgunned yet succeeded to push back the invading armies of Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria, like you pushed the Italians back into Albania in 1940. I see in the Greek people this undying spirit, love for humanity and for what is right. The fact that you resisted the Germans, despite being and impoverished nation, more than any other country (even France), speaks volumes about the fabric of your collective Greek soul. You are a people simultaneously proud and humble. You are wise and above all your hearts and sense of morality stay forever in tact. Bless you my beloved Greek cousins… Peace to the Mediterranean and to the rest of the world.
