Hi man. Great cover. Can you please tell me how to post such covers legally on KZbin? Are they monetized? Should I completely rewrite all the instruments so I don't get banned? Or is there some way to use ready-made instruments and record only one guitar. I know nothing about recording, mixing, mastering etc. And that singing at the beginning of the cover... Did you ask the vocalist to record the vocal part for this cover?
@yeserguitar
@yeserguitar 10 күн бұрын
Thanks, man! None of the covers I make are monetized. They all have copyrights, they allow me to post it but the monetization is off. I don't care about it, because music is just a hobby and since I'm doing good-quality covers algorithms will catch me every single time! And you don't always get a copyright strike to be banned. When you upload the video, there's a copyright section that will give you enough information about copyrights. I also do remakes, this solo section is completely rewritten. I split the song into stems, mute or dim the guitars, and record my own stuff. I will make a video about it so everyone will understand it :) The singing is also the original, and I do small mixing since it's my guitar. I have a method for this, it's complex for the covers but quality comes with good processing. I answered this question in another video, and I will copy-paste my answer here. I hope you don't mind that. If you don't know production, I suggest looking for the things you don't understand in the following steps. You can even ask ChatGPT for quick information 😄 1- I use an audio interface(UAD Apollo Twin) and record the DI to the DAW, use Neural DSP plugins, and reamp to find a good tone. I also process the DI sometimes, especially for high-frequency cleanups. 2- I use the mid-processing EQ to carve the solo out of the song. Nowadays I split the song into stems(thanks to Logic update) and only do the EQ to the guitar stem. If it's a riff cover, I do side processing since guitars are panned. 3- Cover the solo, and gain stage to make it fit. I add a few dB since it's a "guitar cover". 4- I change the EQ a bit, do carve a very small amount. I add a multiband compressor and side-chain it to my guitar track so whenever I play something, the guitar track goes down. Now I changed it to soothe 2, it works even better since it's more dynamic and works frequency-based rather than band-based. 5- So far, I have my track, song as a track, and they go to Masterbus (stereo out). I put a compressor there(FG-Grey and FG-Red from Slate Digital) and use Glue preset. I compress to my taste. My goal is that guitar will be glued into the song and I won't lose the song's dynamics. 6- I add Ozone 9 and use auto-mastering. The goal is, I add the original song as a reference so I will be closer to the EQ curve of the song. I remove most of the changes Ozone does, mostly leave only the limiter, dynamic EQ, and EQ match. I use a very subtle EQ match. 7- Now the cover is ready, sync your audio to your video and show people how a real cover should be done :)

@@yeserguitar I didn't expect such detailed answer. Huge thanks. To be honest, I practically don’t understand what all these steps you described are about. I'll try to explore each of those steps separately. You have such a wealth knowledge regarding digital guitar recording. Can you please advise where a stupid beginner like me should start in order to become at least one step closer in understanding all these processes of guitar recording? More specifically, what needs to be studied. If I'm not mistaken, this is called mixing and mastering? Or audio engineering even? Or do I just need to master the DAW software? Or do I need knowledge from a completely different area? Maybe from many different areas? What are they called? What do I need to learn and in what order? You really understand a lot about this.
@yeserguitar
@yeserguitar 10 күн бұрын
@@dmitryboldyrev7364 first of all, please don't be harsh on yourself :) It's bit of tracking, bit of mixing, but you don't have to call anything. These steps touch many part of the audio engineering, from tracking to mixing. So I think it's better to start with learning a bit of your DAW, whichever you are using at the moment. After that I suggest you to search youtube about how EQ, compression and other processing methods work. There are channels like "In The Mix" that is explaining in detail. There is also a good video about tracking, from Misha Mansoor. After these maybe you can watch some mixing tutorials, even just by searching for that you will find some good videos. Don't think about metal or any other genre, just understand what they are using and where. I personally learned a lot from Adam Nolly Getgood, there's some Periphery mixing tutorials on KZbin in the "GetGoodDrums" channel. That was very helpful for me. And slowly you start to make your own things and you understand where to you the plugins you learned. I'll think about making a playlist for anyone to watch to learn these things, maybe that would be helpful. I can also try to make a guide video and suggest the channels there. Lastly, I'm also giving lessons but not sure that would be interesting to you or not :) And most importantly, as long as you know how to use EQ or compression or saturation and so on, the order of learning is not so important. In the end when you learn to make your own decisions, you'll nail it! After I make a playlist(I have to add it to my to-do list) I'll share it! Please check the community tab regularly, I can also answer here if I can remember it 😄

@@yeserguitar Such valuable information from you. I hope that someday there will be a playlist on your channel for beginners on Audio / Sound engineering, recording, mixing, mastering, tracking or whatever topics)) In my opinion, this is a very complex and broad areas to make videos of, especially videos for beginners. There are very few KZbinrs who talk about sound recording step by step. I mean all information in one place. Usually this information needs to be collected bit by bit on the Internet. And for those people who have no experience in recording music, this can be very stressful. Because in addition to useful information, KZbin contains a lot of useless material. Some KZbinrs make videos on a topic they barely understand themselves. Some KZbinrs just make long videos with a lot of chatter and little useful information. I'm not saying that these people are doing something wrong. Everyone makes videos as they see fit. But I just want to say that it is very difficult to find valuable information. I am sure that going to your lessons would be much more useful than writing comments here)) But unfortunately, at the moment I cannot afford private lessons financially. But I am sure that this would be the best option to get answers to all questions. Thank you really. I see you will have a great future, man)

@@dmitryboldyrev7364 thanks for your kindness and no worries at all! I agree, there's not a place where all the information gathered and ordered well. It can be exhausting sometimes, but I think that it's a puzzle to solve and experimenting stuff helps me understand what is going on! I didn't learn everything, it's impossible anyway. Being an amazing guitars, audio engineer, mix or master engineer, video editor and so on.. They all are full time jobs and require a lot of stuff. I'm a software engineer normally, working full time and doing my best in the evenings. This is all I could achieve so far, can't wait to discover more stuff and bring more value. But lacking time is not helping :) Making the playlist will be relatively easy, but since I'm not an expert or even close, I wouldn't make videos about these stuff. The guy in the "In The Mix" channel actually explains a lot of things very very good and I learned a lot from him. That would be a solid suggestion for you or anyone who wants to work on these stuff. And of course, Adam Nolly GetGood is an icon for my genre. So I definitely recommend him to anyone wants to be a good mix engineer! I will cover the "guitar cover" topic, it'll be intermediate to advanced in level but if you research anything I talk about, you'll learn all of them in no time! Learning to make cover audio and videos probably takes small time!

I feel strandberg naturally has a ‘mid’ kind of tone. It doesn’t have that bright ringing kind of tone that gives an acoustic electric kind of feel. Although it sounds great when run through a processor.
@yeserguitar
@yeserguitar 23 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! I know that they have a pronounced mid, but especially for Suhr SSH+ I feel that it's bright enough and definitely response well to hi-gain setting. I'm mostly a bridge pickup guy so I wouldn't dare to give too much details on SSV, but I can tell that it's much smoother and feels kinda vintage. For lead melodies it feels great to access to it. I'm sure there are a lot of things effecting it's sound, considering it's very original design, but for pickups it's my comment. I think Prog models have better wood choice than this one, but I'm a natural finish kinda guy(hey, PRS artist here) so I made a different decision here. Maybe a nice maple cap could let highs breathe a bit.

@@AdvancedBusinessAcademy there are not videos because I didn't make one yet :D I love and adore the comfort and sound of custom24 and to me it's the absolute best. My Strandberg journey started with some concerns and needs: - I'm a software developer and music is my hobby, a hobby that takes my up all night. Meaning that I am constantly in a sitting position and my picking and mouse-using positions, my back position is a problem. It creates too much pressure and Strandberg design is very ergonomic, helping a lot with the comfort cuts and lightweight design. Soundwise I also liked it, but just because it introduced me a different tonal palette than I used to have. - I needed a guitar that I can travel very easily with, and practice long times. The design also helps with that. - I never had a stainless steel fret guitars, it was an experiment on my and. Liked it a lot and wishing PRS had it, but Paul doesn't plan that(I have a PRS review in the channel, I mentioned it there) - Needed a good two way tremolo. This one doesn't have a big range, but easier to set it up. I could dig a hole in my PRS if I was crazy but no ahahah! I hate Floyd Rose, but still need some two way action for my Dream Theater, Plini and other bands/artists covers. Same goes for my original sound, I missed to have it so here it goes! So in the end, they are different guitars with different ranges. I know PRS is expensive but SE models are considerably cheap and perfect in craftsmanship. If I had some money and courage to experiment, I would get an SE Custom24, change electronics + pickups + tuners + SS frets and shave the neck to be satin finish. That would make it literally the perfect guitar in budget. Probably would be closer in Strandy Prog in price range, but I wanna point out that headless is not for everyone. I love it, but I'm sure there are people who don't like it, and also don't have the money/budget to access a Core series PRS. Soooo, that's my humble suggestion for a perfect blend. Hope it helps!! And of course, aesthetically PRS is far better than any Strandberg or other companies that you'll see. For headless design, my personal favorite is customized Kiesel and Mayones designs because they give a lot of options to choose from. Strandberg doesn't provide that, if they do I would make a perfect Strandy for myself but it won't happen so..

In the livestream we have checked if it's reliable(when you change Nolly to Nolly X with the same preset it'll work as same), what are the new features. Second half of the stream is me trying Nolly's new presets, toggling the new features to identify differences. After this stream, Nolly X is updated once again(old presets on Nolly X turns Nolly's mode on, now they fixed it) and it was something I missed it(actually we detected it but my preset had no EQ moves so I omitted). I even thought of restringing with the same brand and gauge and play similar stuff with all of my guitars, just to give everyone a clear A/B of my gear. @yeserguitar
@yeserguitar Ай бұрын
I would accept the fact that tone is a subjective matter, and you may not like them, but what do you mean "distinct tone" ? To be honest I heard that from so many people, and unfortunately their argument was just the opposite, that "LP, Strat, ,Tele" styles have a "distinct" tones because of their design choices. Considering how "in between" the Custom24 and Custom22 designs are to the LP and Strat designs, and considering how these choice are important(example might be scale length or headstock angle/shape, to make it more stable) I personally call it "best of the both worlds". My perspective is also biased since I have PRS Guitars for the last 8-9 years, but this distinct tone is completely out of reach to me. Every single guitar, both design and uniqueness-wise, has a distinct tone and comfort to the players. Every choice ever been made about a guitars design will effect the tone, it can be anything as small as the nut or bridge saddle material to as big as pickup, wood, scale length choices. This is my take on it with detail, I hope we can solve the distinct tone mystery here. I played djent/prog metal, lo-fi jazz, rock, country and you name it, various genres. As long as you can dial the tone, and considering amp/cab/mic effects a huge/bigger chunk of the tone, you'll achieve anything with your axe. And of course, thanks for watching and engagement!
@guitarandotherthings6090
@guitarandotherthings6090 Ай бұрын
@@yeserguitar when I say “no distinct tone” it means that normally when you listen to an album you can almost call out, “thats a Tele! Thats a Strat! Thats a Les Paul!” But it would be hard to proclaim in confidence, “thats a PRS!”. I only know that with Alter Bridge because thats all they play. I had a Custom 24 and I sold it after realizing this no distinct tone dilemma and was able to buy a nice Les Paul and have money left over. I do miss the PRS’ amazing neck (best hands down) and the incomparable beauty, but i couldnt get it out of my head how it misses tone. I did like the pseudo strat setting however. But i couldnt keep it just for one setting. I miss the birdies too!

@yeserguitar Ай бұрын
@@guitarandotherthings6090 that's totally fair to me 👍 My question would be then, should it? Not fully sure about what's your genre, artists or style in playing but personally in the modern metal scene, most people don't focus on the guitar type and all. I think it would be fair to assume that you'd think of Ibanez, Schecter, Strandberg, Kiesel and all the other companies also don't have a distinct tone. I don't have a Singlecut design from PRS or other companies right now, but I would like to see people are taking blind tests for comparing various singlecut designs to Les Paul. Same goes for Silver Sky vs. Fender, Suhr or other companies' Strats. And lastly, since PRS also makes tele, it goes for tele comparisons :) What I mean is, designs and parameters that makes a guitar will change the sound, feel or anything you can perceive. Custom24 is double-cut, superstrat'ish (according to Sweetwater superstrat definition) guitar. It has it's own tone for sure. Can I understand it? As you said and I agree, nope. But my theory is that, we identify the designs you mentioned because they are literally from 1950(51 for tele, 52 for LP and 54 for Strat, I just googled) and it provided us over 70 years of music. And since then number of companies, designs and variations increased exponentially. So I'm thinking, there are thousands of designs to identify, compared to a few models were the only choices 50-60 years ago. PRS is with us for the last 40'ish years and when it's founded, there was a lot of different designs evolved. That being said, thanks for explaining your perspective on the distinct tone topic. It's good that you know what you want and you searched for it, that is a precious thing for sure. That's maybe the most important thing for a musician, knowing what you want and being comfortable in all aspects of creation with that instrument. I personally focus on comfort, utility, stability, reliability in a guitar. If the pickups are made with good material and craftsmanship, and definitely if it's my type of pickups(all of my guitars are alnico, PRS&Seymour Duncan&Suhr) I know my domain and I can get the tone I need for my project, music and style. I'm grateful that there are many companies and designs that various designs, it gives the opportunity to find our perspective and favorites to make our music in the best way possible 🤌

@@yeserguitar I do think at a point, if there is a lot of distortion the guitar tone no longer matters much, if i was only doing metal I would by all means use a PRS for the comfort and style. And through a REVV! The amp takes priority at that point. I do many styles so my main go-to is a Strat since it covers so much ground. In a perfect world i would have Strat Tele Les Paul and PRS, but i dont like the overseas versions of any of those so youre talking about $9-11k worth of American guitars. Yikes! Lol. Im not knocking PRS, but it would be my last to purchase after getting the dream model of all the others. And even in modern recordings I can discern which of the big 3 it is, not just old recordings when there was essentially only 3 options. I will say Suhr has made the Tele better.

@@guitarandotherthings6090 good things are a little bit expensive, yes 😞 REVV is a nice amp, tried in a fair, really nice one and they are like a bridge for some people who are not into digital era. Not played a Suhr Tele yet, but hopefully in a couple months I'll have the chance, let@s see! And driven tone definitely makes things harder. One might say that it's create more subharmonics and give more of the woods and pickups, but on the other hand too much of it really makes it not so understandable. But to me it's a relief, I would hate to play an instrument just because of a tone chase. That's just me though :)

Thanks! I think 46 is would be floppy, I personally use 59 and kinda happy if I tune it down. It's from the 10-59 elixir nanoweb set, I don't use the 6th and put the 7th instead. Higher gauge loses the tone definition, so if you are not hitting so hard it's definitely worth trying. But I would prefer 10-52 instead, which is something I'm planning nowadays. I hope this helps, I'll make review videos for all my PRS guitars and I'll also compare both of my holcombs since their pickups are different. If you'd like to see that, please stay tuned :)

@@yeserguitar I saw you used 10-46 gauge in your other video description. so I thought you used the same gauge to play it. Thank you for your detailed answer

@@ssnowpenguin that must be a mistake, probably my default description included that.. Sorry for the confusion, I'm not sure which one is that, but I'll check my description!!

Pick tips are amazing, thanks for sharing! ❤️ They are a great way to attract more audience or introduce myself, especially when I meet someone in person. Alternatively, I can throw them at concerts to promote myself. 🤣🔥

Can you show how you setup the guitar when changing tuning?
@yeserguitar
@yeserguitar Ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! Of course, I'm noting this one to my list to make a video! It's a long list, so I would suggest the Strandberg Setup & Maintenance playlist for starters. Their channel and Connor Kaminski's channel covers a lot regarding to setup, but I would definitely share my take on it, hopefully it'll be helpful!

Thank you! Nope, I transcribed this by ear and validated with live videos :) I will try to make a tab but I'm so bad at it so I suggest you slow down if you want to play it 😄 The song is in Drop C!

26.25’ to 27’ scale 7-string Boden with a wenge and purpleheart neck, blacked out ebony board without inlays, solid elemental blue body colour, singe volume pot, treble bleed mod and non-soapbar slanted BKPs 🤌🏻 And probably just a tiny bit more weight :)

I had this guitar, the sound was meh, but better than the classic model. The 7 string does have a fuller sound. I might get the mahogany version someday, might sound better.

I hope it helps! There are some demo videos for Strandberg, PRS, Ibanez and so on. I always have the same question: would it do any good on my rig or my plugins? Of course creating tone against the guitar is the right choice but still we have this question. Thank you so much for checking the video! I'll be restringing and setting up my wonderful PRS guitars and hopefully next reviews video will come soon if you are interested. Promise to include the DI and tone demos 😊

Dude I’d like to see you with your dream Strandy! 🫶 Thanks a lot man, I hope to learn the art of long content and retention and create more valuable stuff. It’s really a lot different than other media, but it’s not messing with my mind and I don’t have to pack pieces of information in a couple of minutes with massive editing 🤣

Totally agree, I still don’t know what makes it that much but likely the name 😅 Prog models are quite similar in specs but cheaper in comparison, so that’s what I assume. Happy with it though 👌 Thank you so much for checking out!
