Hey there! Just came across your video on helping patients with their overall health and wanted to express my gratitude for tackling such a crucial topic. As someone running a Christian channel focused on spreading hope and compassion, I find the concept of offering holistic care deeply resonant with our values of loving others and seeking their well-being. Count me in as a new subscriber - looking forward to more thought-provoking content from you!

Now, is it a problem if this lonely chapter lasts for like 5 years? (Since i was like 13 years old until now (18 years old))

If could be, but honestly, that goes beyond the scope of my expertise. Definitely something worth talking to a professional about though :)

Hi Walter, I agree that just getting a certification to fill a hole is part of the same issue - TBH, early in my career, I collected a few letters after my name for that reason. It's why one of the core components of the CPCP program is to address any of these mindset issues within the practitioner themselves - and why it's a 6-12 month program with meaningful assessment and self-reflection, and not just a certificate you earn after watching some online videos and completing a quick quiz. Happy to share more info of what's involved if you like :)

I can see myself a lot in this video and was going to write a long essay with my situation. However, I dropped the idea just to say that I really appreciate what you are doing for the profession as a whole, and how much your videos are helping my longstanding situation in chiropractic. I hope to meet you and join one of your seminars one day

Hey Kreis, thank you for the kind words, and for your honesty in recognising this. FWIW, I can't say for sure that I've met another colleague who didn't struggle with this at some level. Maybe it's my bias, but I'm not sure if I'd believe anyone who denied they ever did. So you're definitely not alone! Hope we get the chance to meet in person sometime too :)

Great insights into clinical practice. I’m sure a lot of chiropractors have gone through these changes when they’ve introduced new concepts to patients but have gone through the trials and tribulations of it alone. We need more of these honest conversations! 👏🏻

A Buddhist Monk was a patient years ago, he told me to surround myself in gold light and surround the patient in white light. It works immediately with patients and the energy they bring with them. That was 43 years ago and I still use it.

The Buddhist teacher Pema Chodron speaks eloquently on what she describes as “ idiot compassion” to encompass the distortions that can happen when compassion is out of balance.

Hey Chris, nice one, I like your channel. Have you ever analysed why people don’t come back? Is there a way to make an analysis and understand why they re not returning. Being an Osteo and working in a Chiropractic clinic, patients that don’t come back are because 10/15 min is not enough…

Hi, thanks for the comment glad you're enjoying the channel! To answer your question, I strongly recommend keeping track of your patients in a spreadsheet of some sort, to allow you to track where they are and who has dropped off for some reason. It can be as simple as entering the names of each new patient, and ticking off those who either have an existing appointment or have been discharged. What that leaves you with is all the patients who aren't currently coming back, who you haven't spoken to about it. You can then give each one of the a call - to find out how they're doing, NOT to "bring them back in". Sometimes it's a reminder to them to actually rebook (it's easy to forget). If not, you can get some valuable feedback about why. Just make sure to not try and debate with them here - they've already made up their mind, far better to let them know the door is always open and wish them the best. Regarding treatment times, IME this is very rarely an issue when it's handled properly - i.e. patients are made aware of this in advance (by you., not the front desk), and it's framed correctly. However that assumes the clinician in question believes they are providing value for the visit - if you don't believe that, your patients wont either, no matter what words you use. Hope that helps!

In my experience, treatment dependence is an issue not exclusive to manual therapies, it is found in all areas of medicine. Drug dependency is not just found in pain patients with pain meds, some people seek out antibiotics when not needed etc. Great discussion Chris!

Nice talk here Chris. I feel the same way. As with any profession or walk of life, there are fundamentalists on both sides who make it impossible to start a conversation.

I find a lot of patients come to me initially because they want some manual therapy, that they believe the exercises the physio gave them aren’t doing anything. The exercises the physio has given aren’t any different to ones I give but I get better compliance when I point out that doing them might mean they need to see me less often so will save them money…

Always good to attach it to an intrinsic incentive! There's also the element of more frequent contact with the practitioner. This has been shown to increase accountability and compliance. If someone prescribed a rehab plan and says "come back in 6 weeks", even the more motivated patients tend to drop off
