Poorly understood by MOST people who used or sold them, Otherwise, those of us who "Read the book" found it was excellent, despite the comments below. Great turning circle & Adj Track width. Yes MFWD is fine too but they get even more abuse. Thnx for posting.

Had 3 of these, 4040, 4440 and a 4640, they worked great on our 250 acre spud farm.

From what I remember, when you turned on the 4wd 30 horses immediately died, I think after these models jd went with mechanical 4wd.

Wonder if they had a kill switch to shut the engine down before it was oil starved because they used the same tractor for multiple tests.

Deere just released the new version of this called the X9. The CTS was an excellent machine back in the day.

X9 is sort of similar, but it doesn't have the cylinder first doing most of the threshing. It has twin rotors more similar to that of New Holland's design. The design of the CTS is more similar to that of the Lexion combines.

This isn't the class 10 prototype...this is the original CTS design Deere released in the early 1990's. The class 10 prototype uses a similar system, but there are differences.

bduff007 nothing rare about a single front wheel. And four bolts and it's on. I bought one for my 3020 for spraying.
