It's cool! Can I install 6bt cummins 5.9 ,12v on this car ?

Thank you 🙏… The 6bt might be a little too long of an engine but hey, anything is possible :)

So I am just finding out about these 4.5 Cummins. I am thinking about doing a 4.5 in my 99 Durango to make a fuel efficient mountain goat. As it sits that 318 loves gas lol. Other than the obvious fabrication that would have to be done such as motor mounts and cross members and suspension modification, what problems should I expect to run into? Also after having this swap for years now, how is the driving? Would you recommend this swap?
@CruiserInnovationsLC4 жыл бұрын
This is not a good option for a novice fabricator (Not assuming you are). The engine is a squeeze and in respect to the technical side of things it is far to much information than I have time to get into... I would recommend an older 4BT cummins or maybe the 2.8 Cummins which is designed for engine conversion enthusiast. This engine runs extremely strong and is a blast to drive but just not worth the cost and headache that goes into it. I hope this helps...

I purchased it directly from Cummins. It was a liquidation because of California's smog tier requirements which I guess this engine fell a bit short... Worked great for me!!

Very, very impressive build. More should use this engine over the turd of a 3.9L. The 3.9L may be a solid motor when done correct, but they make crap for power. Seriously nice job.

I LOVE this build. The only thing that would make it better would be if it was in a clean HJ47 troopy! I have been digging more into these 4.5L Cummins (planning a swap for a '72 scout) and the one piece of the puzzle I can't track down is the ECU. I would like to throw it in front of an NV4500, so trans control isn't an issue. What did you use for an ECU? All of the stand-alone units I have tracked down have little to no information on them. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
@CruiserInnovationsLC7 жыл бұрын
the 4.5L cummins comes with it's own stand alone ECM. Wire up power, ground, indicator lights, throttle, and you are off to the races. I have changed a bit of the programing with Cummins INSITE software but only minor adjustments which have made it a bit more enjoyable (Ex. turning up the idle slitghtly to smooth it out)...

Nice car but it is not a FJ 40 it is a test rack for all kind of stuff , which has nothing to do with this car . I don't get it , why is it always a DIY garage owner thinks he is smarter then 10000 Toyota engineers and 5 millions test miles. This car is worthless , not original and nobody will be able to repair it in the future only the owner , because nobody knows where to get the parts to fix it and how it is wired and connected.
@Swannyberg977 жыл бұрын
Matthias J. Ort yeah.. you are kind of an idiot. it is still an FJ40. It's modified yes, but still an FJ40. He never claimed to be smarter than them, he just wanted something different. Sorry it don't match your opinion of what a this Cruiser should be. Sorry he didn't build it to your specs.
@michaelking18697 жыл бұрын
You must think it's nice to own a vehicle that parts aren't easy to come buy in the first place. Sure he made a lot, but his can be fixed almost as easy as a stock FJ. Toyota didn't put near as much work into the old versions as you think. His makes a lot more power, likely drives much better, gets better mileage, and won't need the fear of driving a stock one. A good number of those trucks had motor swaps done for a reason.

Swap sides with the front wheels. The 80's era directional wheels on the fronts are "cutting" forward while the rear wheels are "slicing" toward the rear. Not trying to bust balls, that is one sweet iron pig. Great resto.
