How would you compare Carlos Santos to TLB?
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 3 күн бұрын
They are quite similar in price and quality. I would say you can't go wrong with either brand. CS has Patinas where TLB doesn't. TLB has museum calf where CS doesn't. They each have a few unique models the other doesn't carry as well. Both are solid brands.

Why u mixed 2 different leather dye brand? Does it have different quality in color or overall quality?
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 9 күн бұрын
Mixing brands is no problem. Sometimes it's just what I have on hand and sometimes I prefer a color of on brand over another. For instance the Angelus dark brown is darker and preferable to the Fiebings. The Fiebings dark brown is too close to their mid brown. But I like the Fiebings navy blue better. Things like that sometimes will require some mixing.

Bit does crust leather tend to creased badly?

No, I have not found crust leather to crease badly and this brand in particular does very well on creasing. Wholecuts will crease more noticeable compared to a cap toe though.

How would you compare these to your Beckett Simonon Bordeaux Hoyt Monk straps?
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 9 күн бұрын
TLB is a significant improvement over BS. I was never fully satisfied with the Beckett leather after wearing them for a week. They crease heavily. The TLB is nicer in every way. Better construction better leather and better fit and details. No contest. But TLB costs a fair bit more. Beckett is a fine entry level shoe for the price but TLb is more of a solid mid tier. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I would have to agree with you. However, I believe they’re using a different tannery in Italy vs the Argentinian leather. I have multiple pairs of both BS and TLB. My BS hasn’t crease more than normal, but still as you say and I agree TLB is the better quality shoe all around the fit is incredible, and the leather is outstanding. I’m enjoying my BS, but I love my TLB shoes.

How do these stack up against your elegal pair in terms of quality and details?
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc 11 күн бұрын
I think the Yearn is higher quality leather and the fit and finish details are nicer as well but at around $150 more. Elegal is the better bang for buck with Yearn being a little nicer overall. Can't go wrong with either 👍.

Not sure exactly what you're saying here. I tend to start with the more mild options first and when that doesn't work I move on to something more harsh. In this case though the pure polish can actually strip wax better than acetone but it won't strip the dye enough. Pure polish then acetone works well. I don't think I ever said I wasn't going to use acetone. Hope that better explains the thought process.

how long did it take you to get that lightening result with just the acetone? I have some AE Sanfords from 2000 originally in 5347 Bourbon Burnished Calf which is just burnished Walnut and somebody dyed them with a purple base and ruined them. I've been using acetone to get them lighter and the purple is coming off slowly but it's not getting as light as yours have they still look dark. I've done 2 passes so far with drying sessions in between, just wondering how many more I should do/can do safely and if too many will ruin anything. Is bleach/water mixture an option at this point and will that require a walnut dying again or can I just use a pommadier cream in light brown to get the color I want again?
@mbshoedoc
@mbshoedoc Ай бұрын
It can take quite a while. These weren't dyed it looked more like nasty thick cream polish so it stripped easier. Purple dye will be tougher. Bleach water is an option but that is where some damage can occur. It's a little more risky. I'd stay with acetone for a bit. What color are you going for? You may want to seek help from someone.

Thanks! I have had them for a few months at this point and the fit is quite good. The only issue is what I expected from the beginning. They got a heavier than average crease in the toe where the edge of the reinforcement was clearly visible. I think a minor adjustment to their last would solve it. That is a very minor gripe and completely reasonable considering all the other excellent details for a great price.
