I saw it originally on video back in about 88. It's really well made with genuine scares. Back in those days, there were many hit and miss movies on vhs that finding this was a real bonus..👍

It was absolutely not fun. 80% of the movie was taken up by dialogue between characters talking about their relationships or personal problems. About 10% of this movie was spent on Supernatural or ghost-like stuff. I mean Lydia can see a bunch of ghosts and the only ghost we saw in that regard was one in a bathroom with a knife in her head. That was the only one! This movie was so dry and joyless! It was almost like this movie was made for lifetime!

I will say that Coppola's film has been the closest we've gotten to a faithful adaptation of the book. Did he get all the characters and story beats right? Yes. Did he change and add things? Also yes. Is this movie visually stunning? Absolutely - it's an art piece brought to life. Is it completely faithful? No. Another great Dracula movie that came out recently is Last Voyage of the Demeter. I would read the book (or at least the Demeter's captain's log portion) before viewing it, but it's not required. That version of Dracula is very bestial, monstrous, and scary. Closer to the Max Shrek's Nosferatu than Christopher Lee's / Bela Legosi's / Gary Oldman's take on the Count.
@nathanmoore54356 күн бұрын
Its true that this is probably the most accurate big screen adaption of Dracula that we've gotten so far but, Dracula's love story does fundamentally change Bram Stoker's original story and it's titular character drastically. Even still, I think this movie is awesome lol

The song is a million times better than the movie. Haven't you ever seen a movie where the lead character was a terrible person, and you just want someone to hold them accountable? Who's the main character in _Fargo_ ? I contend that it's Jerry and not Margie. You just want him to get his comeuppance. I wrote an unconventional screenplay like this, and I wonder if it can possibly work. It's a caper movie, but you can't root for the caper to be successful. This is no defense of _St. Elmo's Fire_ but I wonder if it can ever work to break the basic rules of plot structure.

QT's decades-long butthurt over this is beyond ridiculous for someone who is supposedly an "expert on cinema". He was/is WELL AWARE that, in the film industry, screenwriters have their work revised/rewritten/reshaped in production by the director....ALL... THE... TIME. He knew the movie business and it was what he signed up for when he SOLD the script to help launch his career. He cashed his NBK check, didn't he?

@@nathanmoore5435 C'mon dude, you know it's not just an opinion, he passionately rants about it as if it was a sin against him that the movie veered from his vision, being well aware of the role screenwriters play in the industry and the primacy of the director in it. He even had a weird nothing-there conflict with Woody Harrelson over it for years. QT does making amazing movies but his opinions on cinema are always the absolute worst. Still waiting for that 20 page essay he promised on how Superman Returns was a masterpiece.

Easily one of my all time favorite films, and honestly what surprised me the most when I watched it, and it still surprises me today, is that it's genuinely one of the best zombie films ever made. It was wild at the time seeing these complete randos (to me at least) who, to my knowledge, had no experience with anything close to this genre, just come out of nowhere and absolutely nail it, while still blending it with comedy in a way that doesn't feel out of place at all. They killed it with the whole trilogy in my opinion, but SotD's just a bit more special to me.

It's where the series knew it had a formula and was just sticking to it and giving the audience what we want and having fun along the way. As one of my first F13 movies it's become a favorite, along with parts 2, 4, and 7 coming up in the rankings behind it.

Just last night I commented about this on another video. I'll copy & paste my same comment here because I'm sure I'm not the only one who shares this critique: My one complaint about Sleepy Hollow was the use of the Ichabod Crane character. If they had only given him a different name, the story of the film would've been a near flawless follow-up to Washington Irving's original story, bringing the tale of the Van Tassel family and the Hessian to perfect closure. They could've even referenced "a school teacher by the name of Crane was the most recent to go missing" at some point (possibly by Christopher Lee at the beginning) and it would've worked perfectly.

One of my favorite funny moments in this one is when one teenage camper, cowering under the bed and listening to the screams from the couselors outside as Jason approaches, turns to one of his fellow campers and says, "So...what WERE you going to be when you grew up?"
