The only other problem I have seen with a Soss Hinge is using the incorrect quantity of hinges for their door weight. Such as needing a quantity of five 218 hinges or three of the 218H on a door, and they use three of the 218 instead of the Hercules. Even then the damage to the hinges wasn't awful.

_If You are sure that this cylinder is from Schlage, and the pins are original, than it is easy to find the code, when You have deep and space keys._
@absupplynetКүн бұрын
This logic applies to all manufacturers tumblers though is not always as easy in real life as pins and keys become worn and it is not unheard of to use non-standard tumbler lengths and not factory standard cut depths so as to thwart this type of easy bypass.

@@absupplynet, _these EuroCylinders from ABUS and/or CISA comes with several different lengths, there are different cutting cards, 01 till 16 (1 till F), or Zeiss Ikon, there are also many possible cuts possible. ....._ _i guess with SC1 or KW1 keyways lots of different manufactures use them, so it is everything possible .... and so on ..._

Good video,the code for a manual flush bolt location is 72" AFF. Always...if your door is taller than stancard the top manual throw flush bolt must always remain at 72" AFF as per code,if you want the flush bolt higher it must be an auto release bolt such as on fire rated doors. I have been in construction and school maintenance for 30 years and have seen manual flush bolts on tall doors above the code,and usually a chair near the door for the person to stand on to reach it.this is why they standardized this 72" AFF to center location. Even in new construction of hotels and hospitals etc... they have made errors in the flush bolt model and myself and my crew were able to catch the error and RFI the supplier and resolved the issue.the proper model flush bolt is important for various door types and applications,I have done them all. I have fabricated steel doors for size and hardware preps for years and when we had a recessed channel in the top or bottom of the door I had to weld in a pre-made steel weld in bridge bracket to accommodate the rod guide plate .You know what happens when the bolt tip is thrown and comes out of the bottom door channel without a flush guide,you can not open the door. I am retired now but love to surf for door and hardware install videos as I loved the industry when I was in it. Thanks Mr. Howard and keep hardware alive it is a dying industry in our times.we had a saying "you don't find door guys....you make them"

The client is kind of in a bind since those ADA thumbturns appear to be one solid machined piece. The right but probably long lead time and expensive answer is factory special order longer length spindles. In the past though, our shop has extended thumbturn lengths if the spindle is press fit/removable by sourcing longer appropriate sized length spindles and bonding with Loctite 680. It's a specialized loctite for slip fitted cylindrical metal parts.
@absupplynet12 күн бұрын
Thank you for the input. I have welded spindles or tailpieces when possible but prefer the option of ordering the correct extended spindle thumbturns so as to eliminate the possibility of a failure years down the road. Rich

What a pain in the ass it was to find this video. It's counter-intuitive to old box cutters, where you would push the blade all the way out with the thumb button, then press the release. In this one, no. Thanks!

Thank you Richard Howard. I have a client that I am working having designed a exterior shingle style look with new windows and doors and a new front entry with a 3 inch thick solid white ash frame for one door and two sidelights. I built the new entry and door and intended to install a Baldwin or Emtek mortise latch and lockset. They instead bought this 5600 Rim Lock. I have installed everything but the keyed cylinder. I am having trouble getting the spindle to mate with the lock body in order to get the key to work, It seems that the spindle is too long- by a lot! from the face (exterior) of the door to the end of the spindle when inserted into the cylinder "keeper"- I measure 3 9/16 in. For all of the good reasons we both respect Baldwin history and quality there are a lot of flies in this ointment (the Rim Lock series)... The screws are very soft, the points of fastening for the latch and bolt "keeper" are so close to each other and near the edge of the jamb they almost touch each other in perpendicular crossing, and the directions are terrible... and I can see why you emphsize in this video at the beginning how non secure this type of lock is. being surface mounted into even the most solid frame where the screws that hold the latches are at the edge and nothing penetrates the jamb at all... Well, a good shoulder bounce will get you inside very easily... My Question Is: should I just saw the spindle and grind it off to the correct size? there are no breakaway kerfs.
@absupplynet22 күн бұрын
I suggest your client return the lock they purchased and reorder it for the correct door thickness. Also I do not agreee regarding any shortcomings of this lock nor this manufacturer. Baldwin is my personal preference when it comes both security and quality - Rich

@SergioSalvi27 күн бұрын
H Richard, thanks for posting this video! I'm in a very similar situation as yours, so I'll share my plan and ask a few questions too: I'm setting up a new 5'x10' Avid CNC to cut aluminum (besides wood), and deciding on an oil-less air compressor rated ~15 SCFM to feed the vortex tube. I'm leaning towards the same 20060CAD as yours, but only one compressor. For air drying, I'll install a passive radiator between the motors and tank (Derale 13317 or a bigger model), and it should condensate the water a lot before air even enters the tank. I'll have an automatic drain valve at the bottom of the radiator to drain the water (model MC-ZLD-050). For air filtering and additional drying, I'm considering the Milton 1072-2. Which Vortec tube did you choose? I'm leaning towards the Vortec 611-1, but I wish they had a dual-nozzle one that is also frost free. Cheers, Sergio PS: Have you considered installing a check valve ("one-way" valve) as the first device right on the output of each air compressor? They should prevent the pressure relief valve from going off when the other compressor starts, as pressure from one tank won't be able to enter the other.
@absupplynet23 күн бұрын
The pressure relief valves are never activited as I have the motor turing off well before that threshold. Rich

It's Brass Richard. All Baldwin pieces are Brass and then coated with one of their 15 colors. My real question is why is the guide plate for the top of the door not done in the same color as the selected flush bolt? I just got my flush bolts in today and my first question was if the new Chinese facility had included the wrong guide plate for the top of the door in my package instead of the Lifetime Graphite Nickel shade like all the other exterior pieces.

Hey, cool video, it has already helped me. Can these tracks be glued in place or should you just figure out how to use screws on this? I'm going to be attacking this to some wood panels for a snake cage I'm making. The tracks seem way to thin for screws ,but as I think about it, I'm not sure I want a permanent adhesive either. Thanks in advance, even if you don't respond you got me closer to my goal.

I would not glue these in. I would use very small flat head screws, perhaps a size 3 or 4. Send photos of your snake tank when you get it built - Rich
