no the public can,t swim there it is a christan camp only
@AestheticExplorationАй бұрын
That is not entirely true. Anyone from the public can rent cabins throughout the year, which permits park-goers to swim, etc. -- Directly from the website - (The pier is open for swimming for group campers only.)

Buriel place of my earliest Newton ancestors . Many gravesites are no longer marked , headstones gone . Originally about 200 acres , threat of war prompted many of the Newton to go to Southport . Several of my early Grandfathers and Grandmothers are buried there at the Newton Cemetery . Nice video folks

That's so interesting, thank you for sharing. I had forgotten all about this place until @DaBriggsBoys reminded me about it. You get the sense that there is "more to it" back there but it's starting to become overgrown and there is some indication that you should not explore too far into the woods or you might get a visit from authorities. "Most of this area is in the Military Sunny Point Ocean Terminal blast buffer zone and is completely undeveloped. Signs will discourage further exploring and parking in other areas may warrant unwelcome visits from police or military personnel. "

I believe LW-SP is my favorite one that I have visited so far. Worth noting if you made a weekend trip or so out of it, there are 3-4 State Parks all within an hour or so of each other. (Singletary Lake, Jones Lake, Lumber River, and also Moore Creek National Park).

I played this course in April of 2024. It did not look like this. The fairways were rock hard with grass that was thin. Weeds all along the sides of fairways. Little to no sand in bunkers. The bridges were very scary. Wood planks were bouncing up as we drove. But the worse of all, the greens. Black fungus has completely over taken making them crust when walked on them. Apparently they were painting or dying them to look green. Cart paths washed out on many holes. I hope it has new owners because the layout is nice. Someone needs to invest a couple million on it. So much potential for someone with a thick wallet. No driving range but they have a small net with a pad to hit from about 5 yards. A couple years work to tuen this course around.

This video was shot sometime in the Fall of '23, so I am surprised it looked that much different by the time you were out there. I would imagine it tough to compete with the main courses of Pinehurst which are close by. As you eluded to, it was nice little course and wasn't crowded but condition is always important. Maybe someone will fix it up!

Agreed. Also within an hour's driving distance of a couple of State Parks. Singletary Lake is only 30 minutes from there. There is one trail, I think it was called Administrative Trail, that I have not been on yet. Unsure if it's only for those Employed by the park but it did not seem to be one that many folks went on. Can't really see it clearly in this video, but around the 00:20:29 mark, it would be directly to your right, IIRC. It did have a sign. Something to explore on the next trip.

It’s a really interesting place. Absolutely worth a visit. I haven’t been on one, but sometimes they do Paranormal Tours as well. IIRC those graves were moved from somewhere on/near Abbey Nature Preserve (Trails) which is right down the road from the Plantation.

Is there any historical background about Burgaw, N.C.? I had a friend, we worked together for many years, who retired in Burgaw years ago. He is gone now!
@AestheticExploration8 ай бұрын
The sign coming into Burgaw does say "Welcome to Historic Burgaw, Incorporated 1879" - That said, I think most signs in NC say this for their respective towns. It's a cool little place. There are a few things to see, such as "Historic Burgaw Train Depot" - "...the oldest railroad depot in North Carolina declared (by) the North Carolina Division of Archives..." "The Pender County Museum is housed in the first brick house ever built in Burgaw (circa 1917) known as the Burton-Noel House."
