This is still one of my favourite movie musicals although I haven't watched it for a long time. R.I.P Olivia, a much loved fellow Australian. I almost had the pleasure of playing the Gene Kelly role in a 2016 production of Xanadu the Musical, which in itself is a parody of the movie and of the 1980's. I did end up playing Zeus King of the Gods, a bigger role in the musical than in the film, having to sing in "Have You Never Been Mellow" and disco dance in the finally, "Xanadu". (Our director decided that she would split the Danny McGuire and Zeus characters rather than both being played by the same actor.)

All I could say was aaawwww. So cute. I just love Gene Kelly’s style of dancing. So distinctive.

My favourite musical with one of my favorites bands featuring my all time favourite recording artist Olivia Neutron Bomb, now.... I'm thinking this song is out of place in the movie it should come later on when Kira tells Sonny she's a muse and breaks his heart

Xanadu (1980) served as an unofficial sequel to Cover Girl (1944). Gene Kelly's character (Danny McGuire) backstory in Xanadu is the plot of Cover Girl.

Everyone has a few favourite songs, let's be honest though, this is probably one of the best songs ever performed and written by the most talented artist, one of the best bands ever. Beautifully written. I don't know where that love has gone? Nothing left to lose. A terrible beauty we made. We make our love on wasteland. Our hearts go to their graves. And then some guy pops up with a saxophone and melts the entire audience to jelly.

When I listened to this on the radio back in the day, the DJ called it "Music to take a bath to". A very apt description to Spandau Ballets best ever song.

what frustrates me is the song was shortened for the album. The parts from 3:29 to 3:46 and from 4:17 to 4:59 was edited out. A repeat of the chorus (2:57 to 3:26) was put at the tail end of the song, then the slow fade out from Olivia (5:00 onward). The album version is good, but I would have loved to have heard the movie version on the album. I know they did a remaster 2CD set, but it doesn't look like they included the movie version on it either.

people should remember Kelly was 68 when this movie was made which was old for back then, be equilvent to 78 now i reckon. So for him to move as well as he did was even more amazing.
