I hunt my own ranches, so private land, I use single burner propane stoves that screw on the bottle, it will heat the 6x4’ box blinds really good, and if you want to cook something you can, people I know that have buddy heaters have had problems with them, we never have trouble with the ones we use. It does get cold here in Texas, but nothing like you guys have to deal with. You have a really nice set up there.

If you hunt in the U.P. where we get lots of snow like I do. You will get tired of getting to your blind and have it laying on the ground because of all the snow. What I do is find two trees wider apart than your blind is wide. Then find a sturdy stick or small tree longer that the two trees are from each other. I set my blind between these two trees and wire the stick/tree over my blind to these two living trees and then wire/rope my blind to this. There should be a handle loop attached to the top of blind. It will save you time and noise in the morning when you want to be quite.
@Johnowens-dm1vb10 күн бұрын
Charley, this is not a criticism but...between youtube videos & football games while in camp, is there much time to hunt? With low deer numbers in many parts of the U.P. it's long hours in the blind for me. I can watch lions highlights on youtube after dark.

I lived and hunted the UP since 1975. The last 3 years have been awesome. Lots of deer, lots of wolves, less hunter's. I had wolves laying on the pipeline 200 yards from my blind. The afternoon I shot a buck. A few days later the wolves were howling and playing in the same spot. That afternoon I filled another deer tag. It's only going to get better. I've seen lots of deer tracks on the snow heading into my bait pile.

I enjoyed watching your video I hunted the upper Peninsula for 20 years in a camp just outside of Crystal Falls on the Michigamme Reservoir. I am definitely looking at putting a pop-up blind on top of an elevated platform and I had the exact same thoughts that you had about why the ice fishing hub companies don’t manufacture one of their insulated houses in camouflage that would be so much nicer for retaining heat and I think it would be a big sales item and versatile because you could use it on the ice as well. I’m really surprised that you cannot find one of those manufactured yet buy Eskimo or clam or any of the big three. It makes me want to wait and see if one does actually take the step in that direction.. I don’t need a hub with 360° of windows when I’m generally hunting One Direction. But just wanted to let you know I was thinking the exact same thing when you mentioned it in your video.

I’ve hunted whitetail deer in Michigan since 1968. One common denominator is that the deer population in Northern Michigan, and the Upper Peninsula, have gone down. The over harvesting of does, and the combination buck license is partially responsible. The problem with predators is another problem. Too many predators are killing the fawns, and young deer. And a State government that seems to believe that hunting must be phased out. And more predators need to be established.

Wisconsin has the same problem. I hunt in North Central Wisconsin. In the late 80’s and early 90’s you would see deer running like crazy on opening day of gun season. Now, nothing. I probably only heard 6-8 distant gunshots all morning. I also bow hunt. From the opening of bow season to the end of the opening weekend of gun, I saw a total of 5 deer. Three doe, one fawn and a spike Buck. I also had two wolf sightings. My first, but it could have been the same wolf. If this continues, the sport will die.
@chrismaurer207523 күн бұрын
It's not just the U.P. that is losing deer numbers. In my section of the N.E. lower There is a cattle farm within a 1/4 mile of my property and the DNR this past summer went out and slaughtered the deer because of the made up reason of Bovine TB . If there is TB I thought I heard in the area then the farmer's can't sell their beef out of state . But at the same time my neighbors and myself have invested a lot of money into our property plus pay our taxes and buy licenses and just when we start seeing good Deer numbers the State comes out and takes it all away . I believe the biggest problem in Michigan is that science does not dictate how our Natural Resources are managed but money and the insurance industry lobbyist dictate how they are managed.

Its pretty simple, it's the wolf! Same thing in Wisconsin. Chequamegon Forest is over run with wolves and not only did our group not see any deer this season, other hunters in the area reported the same thing. The problem as I see it is the federal government! The Wolf needs to be delisted and managed... Period
