How did you attach the tarp to the horizontal pole farthest from the car?
@bighigh69 Жыл бұрын
Do you have link to the poles you used.

THE SILVER SIDE SHOULD BE UP 😊. U SHOULD HAVE THE POLES LEANING AWAY FROM YOUR CAR… LOWER… THE LEAN WILL KEEP THEM MORE STABLE

It's cool to see another 1st Gen Xterra with a diy awning! I'm planning on doing something similar!

That's exactly how I made my awning last year. After watching this video though, I think I'll make the two legs hinged so they roll up with the tarp pole and just drop down when rolled out. Then just needs guys pegging out.

Good simple yet effective design. You’ll probably want to use longer stakes if you’re going to be anchoring to sand a lot. Attaching a strip of aluminum to the tarp along vehicle edge will probably extend the life of your tarp in windy conditions. A washer and a rivet every 12-18 inches should suffice.

Hey Bromey....did you use any type of fixture to attach tbe tube to your cargo rack? Or did you just use hose clamps?
@austintoon17846 жыл бұрын

Do you not worry about the wind catching it and the poles then damaging your vehicle

Try bags that you fill with sand instead of pegs.

where did you get the alum sticks?
@austintoon17847 жыл бұрын
jofher007 If you are talking about the adjustable tent poles than I got them on Amazon and than the pole connected to the awning is electrical conduit that I got from Home Depot. Hope this helps 😁

Nice job, I like having the tube to protect your awning. For ease of use I may just install the bolts that the tarp attaches to towards the vehicle side of the tube so the nuts may not be needed (tension would hold it on in any conditions that an awning would be set up in)
@austintoon17847 жыл бұрын
Give it a go Homestead thank you for the tip, I will definitely try that out.

Let me know how it goes, I'm still working on restoring my Jeep so I can have it on the road at all, these luxuries will come later. I always try to find a way to improve every idea, I encourage people to do the same for my ideas.

When setting up in sand, you might want to try these 16 inch stakes from Lowe's. www.lowes.com/pd/Lehigh-16-in-Plastic-Landscape-Stakes/3587910
