So funny looking through some of these old comments. These are the great Mizpah Boerboels. I have one and a 3rd generation descendant. My little one (125lbs) took after a 350Lb Bear by herself and chased it out of our yard, biting it in the rump and hind leg. When my young Authentic Mizpah gets done growing he will be better than 150 lbs. At 1 year he is 145 lb.

Piebald Boerboels are beautiful dogs. As with any species, breeding should be to improve functionality, characteristics and temperament. A piebald with good characteristics is a better boerboel than a typical colored dog with bad characteristics.

I know all these dogs... I loved them they all had unique traits.

@multimissbeautiful never mind 2, I got three males lol. a boerboel, rottie and a American bulldog. no major problems yet apart frm the occasional bone fight.

@MultiMissbeautiful A good African breed that is less dog aggressive is the Rhodesian Ridgeback. They are a big, strong dog and a loyal guardian but they are hounds and therefore much more tolerant of other canines, as they were bred to run in a pack.

Piebald Boerboels have been accepted by the SABT for appraisal since 2002.

I thought very easy, It would have been easier if I trained her at an earlier age and without the bad habits. Early socialization and education is the key. Check out my blog

I tought he could come inside now and then during it's first couple months though, so it can get used to me and my family. Ofcourse I'd walk it every day and everething, but it just won't be possible to keep it inside all the time. Is that a requirement for a healthy/happy/balanced boerboel?

I'm thinking of getting me a bb pup, but I've got a bunch of questions for the bb experts here: -I already have a male fell terriër, who's great with all other dogs. Still, would it be wise to get a male boerboel? -Would it be okay for the new bb to stay outdoors, in my (big) back yard together with my other dog?

A big dog is a big dog. BBs aren't fat or slow and they are just as big as a presa or bandogge. And they aren't boring either...they have same amount of protection drive as the other two breeds and I might add that they're lineages are probably easier to trace than a bandogge which is basically a hybrid breed and only recognized by one or two clubs. Plus there aren't breed regulations against BBs like there are against presa and bandogges (at least in my state)...

Correction - the video was filmed in 2004, but the original dogs were introduced to Mizpah in 1979. Apologies for not making that distinction clear in the above comment,

Yes, the original boerboels on Mizpah where this video was filmed in 1979 ate mainly the left-over maize porridge and milk. Both the maize and milk were produced on the farm and were unpasturised and the maize unsifted. And those dogs were far healthier than todays dogs eating the best available dog food!

I am quite adamant that the dogs should live in a well socialised pack instead of in kennels and that they should be taken out frequently for stimulation and exercise.

It is amazing how self-cleaning these short-haired dogs are. Within a few hours each and every one of these dogs would have been clean, if slightly dusty.

Originally boerboels were not docked in South Africa. But docked dogs became fashionable in the 1980s. Presently it is illegal to dock dogs in South Africa unless it is done for a valid medical reason.
