Hello! Are the bottom 17 keys the same as the 17 key kalimba ? I want to buy my first Kalimba but I'm already a classical guitarist and play some piano. I'm thinking of directly buying the 34 keys so i can play sharps. But would the usual 17 keys kalimba tabs work on it ?

Good question! The bottom row of this Chill Angels kalimba is the same as a standard 17 key kalimba, so 17 keys kalimba tabs will work as well! In case you want to go for another brand: I believe this principle is the same for every chromatic kalimba, but usually you can find a key lay out online so you could always double check if you're in doubt. I wish you a lot of fun playing!!

Can I request "On the Nature of Daylight" by Max Richter? It's truly beautiful. It's from the movie 'Arrival'. I want to learn it so badly, but there are no covers available for it on the Kalimba as of now. Another great one is the "Arrival of the Birds" soundtrack from the movie 'Theory of Everything'. Those two have been on my wishlist for a while to learn on the Kalimba! One day 🤞

@@kalimbajungle that'll be awesome! I'll be looking forward to it 🙌 I've been using a 17-key hollow kalimba as I'm still a beginner. However, I recently ordered both the Lingting 21-key and 34-key kalimbas! I hope they'll be suitable for such songs. Not quite sure about the difference between Lingting and Chill Angels chromatic kalimbas in terms of keys 🤔 I assume the tabs would be similar for the two.

The one with 34 keys is pretty similar to the Chill Angels, the difference is that the Chill Angels has some extra lower tines on the top row whereas the Lingtin has the same notes on the top row compared to the lower row, but all a semitone higher. I've never played on a Lingting kalimba before, I'm curious what you think of them once your order comes in, I've heard great things about them! :D

@@kalimbajungle wow I didn't know Chill Angels had some different notes. I thought both of them were the same. I also considered getting it at first, but unfortunately, it isn't easily available to be shipped to my country as of now. Same here! I've heard great things about the sound and quality of Lingting kalimbas too. However, from what I've seen in the reviews, the tuning process on the 34-key model seems to be a nightmare 😅 Nonetheless, once tuned, it seems to hold its tuning for longer due to the individual screw mechanism. I'm really excited to play them and will try to update you on my first impressions as a beginner after I receive them haha.

Thanks, I would love to hear your findings! And don't worry about being a beginner on a chromatic kalimba! My experience is that it is not necessarily harder than a 17-tine kalimba. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new kalimba's!

@@kalimbajungle Yep, happens quite often, actually. While they don't exactly break every time, the thin tines of the Chill Angels kalimba tend to act like a nail file on the sides of my nails. 🫠 So I have to take breaks and wait for them to look round and pretty again. Glad it doesn’t happen to you! 😊

Ow, that sounds like it's really annoying! Hopefully you find a way to bypass the naiI file effect, or a kalimba you love that's kinder to your nails :) Have you tried those thumb protectors? Maybe they can help you protect your nails during practicing? I've never used them though, so I'm not sure if/how they work
