I think that is Henry Akins. Judo guy can use his own gi for techniques while Henry cannot. But judo player is easier to grab while Henry not so easy.

Very nice! My late father gifted me a book many years ago (also written by Colonel Rex Applegate), "Crowd and Riot Control". By far my most treasured and most read book.
@petebodega944722 күн бұрын
Col. Applegate is the greatest Oregon Duck of all time. Along with combat knowledge the man also helped design, build and at one point run the School For Spies And Assassins or what we now call Camp David. Rex was also a bodyguard for FDR etc etc… amazing person.

What’s up Jeff! So cool to see this! I was co owner of Sportfighting USA which ran the FFC. This fight almost ended quickly with that arm bar, but ended up being one of the top three ranked fights by the only fight publication at the time, Full Contact Fighter.

Single legs are in Judo. But they are very different from the ones in Wrestling.

I wonder why one went with no gi jacket. Not really fair for grips. I wonder how it would have been with both of them wearing jackets. I’m guessing judo guy would have gotten a throw and would have started as the one on top.

Interesting sweep when White Gi was in sit up guard and the Black Gi had his left leg.

That's kind of the genius of Carlos Jr formulating the rule set (I assume he's the one who did it). I suppose waaay back in the day in Brazil it was a free for all of epic proportions before any kind of a rule set came in. As much as people might complain about the current IBJJF standards, it is a tremendous advancement. It's like going from Gutenberg print press to Smart-Phone.

Sorry, can't figure out who the fighters are. Correct that Rickson is in the background with his son Ruckson (spelling?) sitting on his right (I'm actually on his left). Behind Ruckson on the right is Mark Bocek at about 16yrs old - he later became a UFC fighter. 2 people to the right is Carlos Newton, who later become a UFC champion.

Can you weight at any weight as long as you don’t surpass your weight class?
@jeffjitsuvideos4 ай бұрын
Yes. There are no minimum weights in jiu jitsu tournaments. You can’t enter a higher belt or age division but you can fight any weight class you like as long as you don’t go over the allowed limit

The score table had made a mistake and the top athlete stood up while I was fixing it even though I told them not to move. In retrospect, I should’ve put them back in that same position.

That neck crank that Vale is trying to do is referred to as the "Sugar hold" In Pro/Catch Wrestling circles. Ron Waterman pulled it off in an MMA fight and there's a video out there of Olympic/Pro wrestler Bob Roop doing it on a guy back in the 70's and making the guy scream in pain.
@kevthegoat87744 ай бұрын
Bart Vale was the exact case as Jerry Flynn, a guy who had done Karate and then learned some Catch Wrestling through Pro Wrestling.
