Once you split the cymbidium, you’d repot it using an orchid mix. The orchid mix is a combination of bark and peat as well as vermiculite. Place some planting medium in the bottom of the pot and place the cymbidium in the center of the pot. Back fill around the cymbidium and firmly pressed and fill until the cymbidium is nicely seated in the pot. We usually water lightly washing off the planting medium that might be covering the crown afterwards. Feed the cymbidium every second week with orchid food to help it regain its nutrients

Hi, thank you for the content... Do I need to remove the cymbidium from rockwool after it has flowered or is it okay for me to continue with the potting medium until it outgrows the pot? Thank you

@@lanreoranyeli2248 Hi there, it is perfectly fine to leave the Rockwool even after your blooms are spent. You can go ahead and cut the stem and keep taking care of the cymbidium. As the season warms up, you’ll find new shoots from the side buds. Around September/October, if your cymbidium is bursting out of the pot, you may repot it into a larger pot. We typically use an orchid mix which is mostly bark. No need to remove the rockwool when you transplant. The only difference will be the water retention will be a little less compared to the rockwool. I haven’t had any complaints from repotting with bark so far. Hope that is helpful. Do they like a lot of water? Because the ones i plant on my front verandah is dying I’m not sure if it’s to much sun or to much water but the ones at the backyard is growing very well.
