If you can keep your arm bent at a consistent angle it will work. The reason extending the arm is so effective is because you always have the same distance and your measurements will always be consistent. Hope that helps!

I think so, this is a very small painting so there is not a lot of detail. I have so many videos and lessons on Patreon it is sometimes hard for me to remember. Use the tags, mark making, pastel, landscape, or painting materials to help you find it. The gesso is a great addition to add dimension to a flat medium like pastel.

Hi John, Yes it does, it also shows how I organize them and create a travel box from different brands. One set I can suggest for first time pastel painters is the Faber-Castell box of 72 soft pastels. It costs around $30 and is readily available through mail order art stores and amazon. It has a full value range and nice range of primary, secondary and ishy colors. I am currently using it to teach a group of oil painters pastel. They may not be archival but it is a great set to try them out to see how you like it. I do offer on my website a video you can stream showing basic pastel strokes and application.
