Marino Did his Job!!! I love the Dolphins and I know growing up It was Marino's arm with two recievers that were at 5' foot 6 around there, and the running game was inconsistent. The defense didn't click like it should have. Put a Walter Payton or Barry Sanders behind him or even Ricky Williams, Marcus Allen and it's a different story period! There are a lot of great quarterbacks that have played in the NFL and each deserve respect and recognition for what they have done or are doing and Marino did his talking on the field with his play and Nobody can take that away because it was all with his quick decisions and release. Never was a runner or scrambler but he could throw it in the perfect place at the perfect time! He was always confident never cocky!

I had a friend that played football. He was pretty good. He didn’t get drafted but did get invited to work out with some pro teams. He was a wide receiver. He said that he had never had a quarterback come close to what Dan Marino could do. He said every pass was exactly where it should be and had so much zip on them his hands literally had the seems of the football imprinted on them after he caught the ball. He didn’t end up making any pro teams, but there was no doubt that Dan Marino was the best QB in his mind.

No rookie QB has ever come into the NFL with a better chance of success than Dan Marino did in '83. He was drafted by a S.B. team, a Defense that was No.1 for Least Points Allowed, running backs that had OVER 2,000 yds. rushing, the best coach in the League, and as it turns out he was in his prime from '83 through '86. That should have led to 2 or 3 Super Bowl wins.
@dennismumford6108
@dennismumford6108 Жыл бұрын
Instead it only led to 1 Conference Championship win. What an underachiever in the playoffs.Overall, Dan ended up 1-3 in championship games throughout his career. He ended up with the unofficial Record of 10 playoff games with 2 or more INT's until Brady finally broke it after his thirty seventh ?? game in the playoffs. Dan set the Record in only 18 games.

How did Dan play in his 3 championship game LOSSES---he had 4 TD's but 6 INT's and 2 fumbles, a Passer Rating UNDER 60, and he led his offense to an avg. of only 12 p.p.g. How can a TEAM win championships when their QB is playing like that ?? What an underachiever in the playoffs !!

What prevented Marino from winning multiple Super Bowls---his mediocre to bad passing in a big majority of his championship games. If only Dan would have been a better passer in his biggest games in the playoffs, when his teammates were counting on him more than ever to be a good passer---but he wasn't. And those 3 championship game losses represent 75% of his biggest games. No other Top 20 All-Time QB was that bad that often in his biggest games.

You got to realize Marino changed the game in 1984. Quarterbacks did not throw downfield like he did before that time. It was always run the ball and throw it occasionally to keep the defense honest. Marino reversed this trend which persists to this day. He also had a swagger and confidence that I rarely see in todays NFL.
@toddfrank3344
@toddfrank3344 9 ай бұрын
Namath did. But the rules were different..QBs and receivers were hardly protected at all. Namath would thread the needle on long downfield bombs and often got picked off. But even with all that, he was still the first QB to throw for over 4,000 yards in a season (a shorter season). All that said, Marino was the best there ever was. There were more rules in place to protect the QB and wideouts than during Namath's era, but not nearly as many as today. If Marino played today, his totals would dwarf Manning, Brady, Brees et al.

His '84 season still stands as the greatest season a quarterback has ever had. Adjust it to today's game and he's throwing 7,000 yards and 80 touchdowns. Greatest pure quarterback to ever play and there is no debate. Aaron rodgers is a very distant second. He's the reason I am a lifelong miami dolphins fan.

He was the first qb to ever throw 40 or more tds. He was the first qb to throw for over 400 tds and the first qb to throw for over 60,000 yard. @@TylerTempeDan Marino had defenses too....these are just some of his scoring defenses in terms of rankings: #1 #1 #4 #7 #10 Too many people ignore objective evidence with these players and go off of what they or analysts feel they should be.....even when presented with facts they tend to ignore....I try and base my opinion on real information. Most people like to troll or spew nonsensical rhetoric. I don't have time for bush league lazy analysis perpetrated by casuals and fanboys.
@broderickcrawford8110
@broderickcrawford8110 Жыл бұрын
@@TylerTempeOf course championships aren't everything but they matter and do weigh a lot when it comes to ranking all time great and elite QBS. Anybody who has an IQ above salad dressing knows that Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson, and Trent Dilfer aren't in the same league as Dan Marino when it comes to playing the QB position. That's why you can't just look at championships. Just like statistics aren't everything bc they can be extremely misleading. I look at talent, strong arm, accuracy, decision making, high football IQ, clutch play, leadership, performance, ability, and success. Putting your team in the best possible position to win games and ultimately winning games. It's just hard to quantify eras bc of the rule changes but you can only play and dominate the era in which you played. Brady and Manning were the best of their era, Marino and Montana, Staubach and Bradshaw of their era, Unitas and Starr, etc. That’s why I think comparing how you did to the average player of your era is the only way to do it fairly. Like having a 105 rating when the league average is a 93 rating isn’t as impressive as say a 101 rating when the league average is an 80 rating. If that makes sense.
