I'm surprised that nobody pointed out the mistake in this version (which is by the way the Wikipedia version) that they added a repetition at 2:18 which shouldn't be there 🙄

@@takyno You know what that is? That's the original theatrical version to be used with the play Peer Gynt. There are three lines of dialog that are repeated after each orchestral hit. Grieg changed that in the orchestral suite he prepared later. I don't know how or why the orchesta was using the original score (minus the chorus and speaking parts). I only know this because I have the complete incidental music on CD.

French, I know, but my brother wanted me to accompany an organist for his wedding playing Jean-Joseph Mouret's Fanfare when I was in high school. I turned it down, not because I couldn't handle it, but because I could never conquer my terrible stage fright. When I listen to this stuff, I wonder what could have been.

The saxophones being at the forefront of the mixing seems to be deliberate. Which is very nice, since the original sweet jazz songs from the 1930s had this curious characteristic. Soothing saxophone vibrattos galore with mid to slow tempos (although the vibrattos here are much more subtle, if there are any), and it's actually uncommon for someone to reproduce that very specific trait of the sweet jazz era nowadays.
