Would i be wrong to assume the boiler anr firebox on the Y1 are like a coffee pot engine? Albeit smaller?

I've been watching videos of the Middleton Railway for some 15 years now. I'll put it high on my list of places to visit if I ever make it to England again. Greetings from Sydney, Australia!

What is the vent ? On the top of the smokebox door? Is it something to do with the drafting with it being a different chimney.
@davidalksnis55197 жыл бұрын
Nice to see the engine being restored,When I lived at lightcliffe nr Halifax I used to live across the road from Brookes works,I used to now the orginal train driver and fireman as the driver was a friend of my Grandad and the fireman knew my dad. I also rode on the train though the works and when we went near the offices the driver told me to duck down until we passed . brings back a lot of childhood memories.

Is this locomotive ex Manvers Main colliery & coke plant? I take it the green livery is that of the local NCB area workshops. I wonder how 65, also at Manvers got to be yellow. A change for better visibility?

The Middleton Railway state that as the locomotive was made for export it exceeds the British loading gauge. Therefore it would have to be reconstructed, (butchered) to reduce it's width. It would look a lot better with reproduced tanks, cab and boiler cladding to show what it looked like in service. The coupling and what looks like a feed-water heater suggests a tropical location. I wonder if they burned sugar waste (bagasse) or coal? It looks like the chimney has been played with.

only says on this link www.middletonrailway.org.uk/index.php/development-projects/conserving-picton that the buffer beams are wide and would demolish the platform

Thank you for a great video. I'm very happy to see PICTON under cover for the first time in around 60 years. I must come up and see her very soon. During her time in Trinidad I would frequently go to the old Jordan Hill siding where she was abandoned along with her two sisters, CEDARHILL and TAROUBA. I hope one day she can be restored to working order.

What a cracking video. I've twice had a go at volunteering for the NYMR and both times got fed up of the 'clique' culture and 'one upmanship'. Wish I'd had a go at The Middleton, it looks a far nicer place to operate and easier to get to!. Sincere best wishes for the railway and more great quality videos. Well done.
