The Rankin rode shotgun in my old Mustang for years as I banged down the road as a reporter for a community paper. Their music is dear to my heart and always will be. Just magnificent

'Eyes of Margaret' is a great song and I just found out it was written by John Morris Rankin. I always thought it was a standard from a long time ago.

Great song! Heard it first played by The Ugly Guys who have recorded a fantastic version. The original would probably have been a big hit it had been written and released in the mid 70s.

Nope. I've been a fan since the 90's when I had my own band playing bars all over western Canada. They DOMINATED the jukeboxes back in those days!!!

They were amazing! I remember accidentally discovering the Rankin Family on a French-Canadian satellite channel, Musique Plus. I tried to purchase their CDs in the US, but couldn't find any. Finally it occurred to me to just call a Canadian Music store and have them shipped to me!

I first heard the Rankin Family at St-FX and saw them play live at the Oland Center. Then had drinks with them at Piper's Pub. Brings me back to that moment in time every time I listen to their beautiful music, Love Love Love.

John Morris, gone to soon as well,he picked up one time hitch hiking from school in Mabou ,I lived in Whycocomagh. He said he was late for a concert at Center 200 and still stopped, to give me a ride.Great people, those Rankins.

He was an amazing multi-instrumentalist. Nice to know that he was also a super nice guy. Thanks for sharing. Raylene was nice enough to write back to me after requesting how to purchase a DVD of that Vancouver concert after first seeing it on PBS. At the time she told me it wasn't available for purchase, but later became so after John Morris' death, with a dedication to him on the DVD.

I totally agree. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this performance by Raylene - perfection. So sad to have both her and John Morris gone - far too soon. Such talents. As is the entire family. While this is by far my favourite song, that entire Vancouver concert was great. I just may have to post the whole thing.
