I was 5 years old when the show aired. Not surprisingly, it didn’t make it to my 6th. This intro is one of the cringiest I’ve ever seen. In an era that was arguably the best for network TV, how on earth did people look at this & think - this show will definitely compete with Threes company , Laverne & Shirley etc.

As a TV history buff, I've known of this series for many years but never saw it as a kid in the 60's, nor have I ever seen a single frame of it until viewing the opening right now. I saw the original Jack Lemmon movie in a theater when in theatrical release originally but haven't seen it in decades, recalling virtually nothing about the film. I must say, though, the sitcom opening shown here is a little disappointing to me, in terms of nostalgic TV history. It's rather pedestrian with standard, bouncy, rum-te-tum-tum theme music, pretty generic in nature; in short, a typical sitcom opening of the first-half of the 1960's. It's interesting, though, that this aired so late on Sun. nights. For what I assume was a family-friendly show, it's long past most kids' bedtimes of that era, certainly mine! I didn't realize it was an hour in length---or was it? Sitcoms always were half-an-hour back then, so I'm a little puzzled. One thing I've noticed, though, is that network TV schedules were far different in this period than today's. Hope I'll be able to see full episodes in the future!

It's easy now to see that McLean made a mistake by leaving MASH, but at the time his agents, network executives, and PR folks were all telling him to "make the move" as they were also promising loads of cash. Occasionally, these situations do work out, more often than not, however, they don't.

Interesting that Marcia rodd agreed to do a TV series.she originated the role of carol Maude's daughter in the second episode of all in the family that featured bea Arthur as maude.from what I understand Marcia rodd turned down the role because she wanted to devote time to the theatre.she is so talented Marcia rodd.and so stunningly attractive looking.

Terrible openening. It does not endear the viewer to him. Never seen an episode but I suspect the main character is a schmuck that just lets things happen to him. He should be clotheslining the paperboy, and throwing the trash at the lady..... now you got a series!

To anyone who knew about and saw that Monty Python sketch before finding out where the inspiration for that sketch came from, I was one of you. I have the Monty Python: All the Bits book and saw that they parodied this open for that sketch. I didn't even know about the Debbie Reynolds show until reading that Monty Python book.
