I accept this flow behavior and I can successfully calculate every point in a CD Nozzle at given back pressure to stagnation pressur ratio and expansion ratio. But today I talked with an aerospace colleague and he said that in real life, it is not possible to get supersonic flow in a nozzle (and then a normal shock) if the backpressure is a higher than fhe pressure at the throat p*. Imagine, that the nozzle is evacuated and then you let a gas flow in with a given stagnation pressure. The gas reaches p* at the throat, but then the backpressure is higher then p*, so how can the flow get supersonic initially? Yes I do understand that the static pressure significantly increases after a normal shock, but still. So my question is specially about the case where (Pb/P0 | subsonic) > (Pb/ P0) > (p*/P0) I hope my question is understandable.

is the converging nozzle exclusively for after burner use or it also varies depending on speed in flight. My theory is that when the jet is flying slow the nozzle would stay wider for lower engine load and fast response and as the jet goes faster, the nozzle gets smaller to produce faster thrust. A bit like a gearbox, where open wide is first gear and choked is 6th gear. Or would it be better to have a fixed nozzle size if not for afterburner? Thanks

I worked on this for motorcycles but I came across an interesting fact. Peak power is produced before the redline. So when the vehicle is at peak power, the gearing does not allow for that theoretical top speed. But as you approach the redline, as gearing increases to allow for higher top speed, your power drops. So you have to calculate the speed at which both gearing and aerodynamic top speed intersect, that’s your real top speed. For your example, I wonder, at 6400rpm in whatever top gear is, does the gearing allow 269.7mph? If not, you have to go past 6400rpm to reach aerodynamic top speed, but as you go further past 6400rpm, you lose power, and thus you will have a lower top speed.

Error in MATLAB_XFOIL (line 55) XB = dataBuffer{1}(:,1); % Boundary point X-coordinate >> What should I do, I watched your video for the 5th time today and I can't see any difference that I am making to get this kind of error, and anyone who can help, Please

I love how this guy just deduces that everybody that is curious enough to watch his videos must be a skilled matematician, capable of easily solving the last equation. He spent 7 minutes explaining how to formulate the damn equation then he just shows the result without even showing the process...

This is brilliant! I finished college many years ago, but I still use notebooks for notes on books I'm reading so I won't forget. I've made "cheat" sheets for my son, who is dyslexic, on books he has to read for school with characters' names, settings, events, maps, and pictures. Grid notebooks are my favorite.

I like how you get to the point immediately. The inclusion of the diffuser makes sense but is also kinda counterintuitive. The afterburners are there to increase the velocity of the gases but to utilize them optimally we need to slow down the gasses first. I imagine that tuning the diffusers must be quite a challenge. To have a design that results in the maximal net velocity gain.
