another issue that genning gets around is certain move tutor moves. Like back in FRLG, emerald and XD there were npcs you could talk to that would teach certain mons certain moves that they couldn't learn through normal gameplay once per save file. If you needed a gen 1-3 mon with one of these moves from XD being the worst case, you'd need a gamecube, a copy of xd, a gameboy-gamecube link cable, a gba, one of the gen 3 pokemon games, a nintendo ds, a gen 4 game, a gen 5 game, a 3ds, a switch, pokemon bank, pokemon home, and then finally scarlet/violet. You need to transfer the gc mon to the gba via the link cable, then use pal park to get to gen 4, then use ds download play to move from 4 to 5, then use bank to send them to home.

the move metronome does in fact count as gambling. and it is technically illegal to gamble according to korean law. they saw something wonkey with that move and said screw it we are done here, instead of issuing a warning.

Good vid, but as someone from outside the scene, that part about hacked poke.on saving you time was absurd. The comparison to "do unemployed people have an advantage" is the exact type of reductive bad faith argument he says everyone else is making. Time advantage in prep is an advantage, full stop.

Hey, I just wanted to say that for someone who doesn't watch your channel, you really did not make the topic of the video clear. There is no hint in the thumbnail, title, or description. The earliest mention of context is when you mention VGC at 1:24 , which only helps those who knows that that stands for. At 1:40, we get another hint as you drop the well known name "Nintendo" And it's only at 2:40 that you finally mention Pokémon. That's over 2:30 minutes where someone who isn't in the know will be very confused.

What? This is ridiculous, metronome is 100% based on luck for it to work and why the hell did they get banned for using a move that relies entirely with luck?
@gaerekxenos2 күн бұрын
Because it was done in protest, which is negative to the company's image. And apparently there were subtle messages with "wagging finger," which I'll say... 'interpret it as you will' Honestly, it was a "pick your poison" scenario. And disqualifying the players, especially in this manner, was going to be a gamble on whether it would be accepted or not. Unfortunately for them, it was basically a guaranteed fail because the internet talks

As someone who is returning to pokemon after not playing for a while, and is interested in getting into vgc, I'm just not going to. I don't have all of the games in the series, let alone all of the dlcs. I don't have Calerx, or Urshafoo, or any of the genies. It's just not worth the up front cost.

I’ll preface this by saying that I don’t play pokemon anymore, and I’ve never been involved in the TCG or VGC. This just popped in my recommended and I was curious and wanted to share my thoughts. I know you guys take this seriously, and I don’t blame you one bit for being upset, but expecting a company like TPC to actually care about anything besides money is just foolish. It’s the same with WotC, lots of big AAA game studios and the big game publishers. They’ve been infested with lawyers, along with outside bean counters, corporate marketer’s, and C-Suite managerial types with no real connection to the IP’s that they make money off of. Basically any competitive scene that isn’t grassroots and built by the players themselves tends to be like this or turn into this, as far as I’m aware of. It’s why Nintendo hates the competitive Smash scene and has repeatedly tried to shut them down, and it’s why the rest of the FGC in general is largely so successful. At the end of the day, all they care about is money. Don’t ever forget that. The only reason they even hold TCG tournaments is to advertise and sell the cards, and the only reason the have the VGC is to advertise and sell the games. It is a marketing expense. That’s it. They’re going to spend as little money and effort as possible, and as soon as it isn’t profitable they’ll stop paying for it. You’re better off building your own league and holding your own tournaments because you, presumably, actually give a shit about the competition itself rather than the value that it generates for the company. I wish you guys luck, and I hope it gets better, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Idk if this is a dumb idea, but why not record the top 16 matches as a fail safe so if power goes out, the recording is there for the players to repeat the exact moves up to when the disconnect happened?
@mrgodogodopaint21 күн бұрын
it would be great if we had an ingame way of remaking games or picking back up from save states but just taking a recording and redoing all the same moves wouldn't work because there is too much RNG in battles that cause two exactly played games to end up at very different states. maybe a way to remake the same RNG seed to start the battle would work (i remember there was actually a bug at the very beginning of online battles in SV that caused this to happen) but currently there is no way to remake a game as it was

I use a pokemon generating program (I don't play competitive, I just hadn't found a better way to transfer between emulator files) that checks for the legality of a pokemon both on generating and on reading. So if I, for exemple, try to create a snivy, give it like... swim, and say it was caught in pokemon ruby, it will complain. It'll still let me create the snivy, but it will very explicitly not be valid for tournaments. Without knowing the system that TPC uses to check, it's hard to comment, but I don't see any reason for them not to use a similar check. But who knows, maybe they did the math and came to the conclusion that banning every hacked pokemon, even if it's inherently not different from one generated by the games, is worth it to catch the cheaters in the middle. I (as one of the people who don't compete but have an opinion on the matter, yes) don't think that, as long as a pokemon has characteristics that it doesn't have legitimately, it would make much difference in the tournament itself, yet rules are rules, and if the rule is "no hacked mons allowed," then it's no hacked mons allowed, and you're taking a risk by knowingly bringing them aboard. A shame for situations like the Cresselia guy, though.
