Very sad. The difference in scale truely tells why it is practically impossible to buy locally from Germany.

The board designer prepared his layout on a computer-aided design, or CAD. Each CAD system uses its own internal data format, so the PCB industry has developed a standard output format to transfer the layout data to the manufacturer. This is extended Gerber, or RS-274X. The Gerber files define the copper tracking layers for the job we are following, as well as the solder masks and component notations. First, we check that data meets our manufacturing requirements. These checks are mostly done automatically. We check the track widths, the space between the tracks, the pads around the holes, the smallest hole size, et cetera. The engineer can also check and measure individual areas where he wishes. Once the data is verified as good, he will output all the tool files needed to drive the machines that will make and test the PCB.

A pitty spending so much effort into a good video and then not adding a voiceover with explanations. Only half job done.

The spindles are air driven? Normally, the spindles use air bearings and powered by 3 phase AC power (variable voltage and variable frequency).

The operator checks this, the operator checks that. Poor operator. I wish there was a technology that allows a computer to make a photo of the board. There's a rumor China invented such a technology (they call it a *camera*), that's why their boards are 100 times cheaper, and do not get exposed to the dust and other organic contamination by human operators.

very informative video, but this looked like "small productions/batches" how does this process compare to say running 1.000.000 motherboards would that be the exact same steps or do they do something "easier" due to the massive volume? since this way seems "very slow" if you need a large volume of PCB's

Sames process. More and some larger machines and more automation to produce big series. We make prototypes and small series and hence we do not automate too much to not loose flexibility. Turnaround time in our factory is in average less than 48 hours and for series this is 12 to 15 days.
@LiLBitsDK
@LiLBitsDK Жыл бұрын
@@eurocircuits which processeds do you do manually that a larger production would automate?
@eurocircuits
@eurocircuits Жыл бұрын
@@LiLBitsDK Process steps? None. All are done by and in the same professional machines, whether you make prototypes or big series. Only proceeding from one machine to the next is highly automated in series production and not for prototypes as that leaves us the flexibility to switch priority at every single process step which is needed to reach all deadlines in time. For mass production this is not done and they work according "first in first out" throughout the entire process which brings flexibility down but handling costs also. Different kind of game: Prototypes / Series.

I am amazed that you would repair a bare PCB and not scrap the board.
@eurocircuits
@eurocircuits Жыл бұрын
Scrapping is what usually happens these days as boards are getting denser. But there is always a trade off to consider between the customers need for fast turnaround and repair or not. We are making fast turn around prototypes and in cases of simple shorts, and only shorts, a repair is often simple by removing the excess copper (the short) without compromising the board, hence saving valuable lead time. Common sense provided the technology of the board allows it.

The video is part of a web course to explain how PCBs are made industrially. This to answer many questions from schools and was launched Jan 2013 www.eurocircuits.com/making-a-pcb-pcb-manufacture-step-by-step/. Shortly there after many technologies were replace/renewed amongst others the screen printers who disappeared and were replaced by spray coaters. This can be seen in the newer version of the film: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imi2ZWN9jqqGmLs. And even that movie can't keep up with the reality of constant investments in technology as this is an ongoing yearly issue in Board manufacturing.

Shouldn't a guy working with uv wear glasses when panel is placed in the machine?
@eurocircuits
@eurocircuits 2 жыл бұрын
The UV-light cannot escape from the machine. So it is perfectly safe. The last 5 years we use direct imaging instead and film is only used in rare occasions for instance for white soldermask as that needs high UV energie to cure.

@eurocircuits
@eurocircuits 2 жыл бұрын
No, this is a real Eurocircuits made application and not just an AOI machine. We need to bring down the setup time down next to zero because we only make prototypes and small series. Traditional AOI machines require long setup times which are not justified for these small quantities. The full video here: vimeo.com/510689477

Thanks for your comment. The video is not a commercial video but an educational video which comprises al separate video segments of the page we made specially for the educational world: www.eurocircuits.com/making-a-pcb-pcb-manufacture-step-by-step/ It dates from 2013 and was a request of several teachers. Later we made an update which shows newer technologies and which is not a stitch of separate videos of an educational course, and that takes about 13 minutes. You can find it here: @t One can always explain everything in an even shorter time, but if the goal is transfer of knowledge, you might worry about how much knowledge transfer you can do in just a few minutes.

Thank you for your comment. This was one of the first movies we made 8 years ago and as non English natives we need to pay more attention to these issues. In the mean time we have a newer versions with updated technology @t and yet are again making a new series of movies about PCB manufacturing techniques as technology has again been updated. I hope we also do better on language and that can be judged here where all our videos are: www.eurocircuits.tv We do hope you like the content and keep following us!
