Excellent video. To often we all get caught up with the units doing the fighting. Forgetting that those units were made up of men. Each one with his own story, hopes and dreams. Way to many saw their stories end on battlefields like this one.

According to historian George Donelson Moss, Roosevelt deliberately misled Americans by reporting the Greer incident as if it would have been an unprovoked German attack on a peaceful American ship. This "shoot on sight" policy effectively declared naval war on Germany, and was favored by Americans by a margin of 2-to-1.
@Jeremy-y1t
@Jeremy-y1t 14 күн бұрын
What Roosevelt failed to mention in his broadcast is that in each case the U.S. destroyers had been involved in attack operations against the German submarines, which fired in self-defense only as a last resort. Hitler wanted to avoid war with the United States at all costs, and had expressly ordered German submarines to avoid conflicts with U.S. warships, except to avoid imminent destruction. It was Roosevelt's shoot-on-sight orders to U.S. Navy vessels that were designed to make incidents like the ones Roosevelt condemned inevitable.

It’s amazing how some interpret information at hand always putting some spin on the thing that just looks bad they try and make the USA look bad trust what the world has seen is the us military does as advertised and is feared world wide no one not even China for them conflict wouldn’t end well they already know this from past estimated 1.5 million missing or dead on Chinas side Korea was pretty intense as well
@HistorywithWaffles
@HistorywithWaffles 22 күн бұрын
There’s no spin or interpreting on my part. This is historic fact I provide straight out of the history books from the good old USA. This was a strategic move in concert with Britain that was mostly done to prevent the USA from entering this war but at the same time trying to keep lanes open in the sea.

A family legend is that my Great^4th Grandmother treated his mother for a bullet wound after the Pinkertons attacked her farm to drive her away from her land because the railroad company was trying to confiscate it. Congress had given the company the rights to a 200 mile wide corridor to build the railroad, and her land was inside that. The Pinkertons worked for the company essentially as mercenaries to enforce this rule and they murdered hundreds of people and confiscated their property as part of that land grant. This was supposedly the impetus for James’ starting out robbing trains. Just a story in my family. No way to verify it.
