Thanks Skip, Tamar and Naomi for a great conversation! I noticed myself nodding along in agreement as I was listening. @Naomi, it's been more than 10 years that Tamar was so kind and invite me to Israel to discuss how to best scan complex environments so they can be used in simulations. We're definitely very close to achieving that so many years later (and were able to do so back in the day as well), it's just a matter of simplifying the technology and making it widely available so larger environments can be scanned. Individual objects and small scenes are already "easy" to scan with many phones and specialized apps, albeit not at the quality that I would like to have. Tamar, Naomi, I wish you and your families all the best in these difficult times. @Skip, looking forward to the next talks in the series. Best, Sebastian

My father is hosting a Ukrainian family here in the US who have been displaced from their home due to the war. He is fully set up for virtual reality and familiar with the technology. Is there a way we could get connected with this project? Who would we contact about joining future sessions? Thank you!

Wow, when my father was a refugee, the top of his priority was FOOD and roof over his head. How things changed. Now refugees can get VR set, computer and internet access.

Basic needs are still relevant, but in view of the massive mental health challenges that Ukrainians will face due to the trauma of war, this is the start of a long term effort. I wish we had this capability for your Dad and the other refugees who have suffered horrifically, but now we do and intend on developing it to address one part of an extremely complex problem that will not go away soon. btw, this can also be accessed from a basic flatscreen computer, not just with a VR headset.

I see Vietnam almost every night. Half century later, it remains like a stain. Why the hell would I ever want to watch any of these cartoon scenarios? Why continue to experience the horror that was combat in Vietnam? No thanks. I’ll pass. All I need to do is close my eyes to see it again. Don’t need a fancy computer. Want to make it realistic? Make the guy carry body parts to a helicopter, or sit on a dead VC and eat lunch before trying to match parts to bodies. And that doesn’t even include the battle itself. Helicopters and rice paddys are just flirting with the edges of reality there. Program smell-o-vision so they can smell the blood, feces and urine of a dead body, or better, the smell of a man’s final breath. Make it really real. Then you might have something.

I understand why they did it, but resolving the situation by showing that the body was mined was a mistake, as far as I'm concerned. In war, you don't have the luxury to always have been right in hindsight. You might have to shoot someone and later learn that they were a civilian. You might get your own killed, despite your best intentions. This is a situation that went right, but soldiers need to be prepared for when things go wrong.

Just saw your comment and kinda agree. But this was the first of 6 episodes, the next few get progressively more challenging and dont have a "happy ending". I think ya have to look at episode 1 as a moral dilemma challenge where they got a pass, not so in the next episodes.
