As much as I love this song (seriously I do), I'd love to see it as a full band. It's begging for an alternative-style remix. Great playing and singing, and that bass is like, top 10 favorites in the world.

Yeeeaaahhhhhh!!!!!! BASS IT FAT ENERGY FOR OUR SOUL!!!! Their Dynamics for so exciting! We never missed Pre- Shrunk when they came to Adelaide! I have so much respect for Dave. He didn't just fiddle around with his effects pedals on Bass. He studied his effects and practiced "milking" them with subtle detail and got the BEST ORIGINAL sound out of them on BASS. Check out at "3:10" how he is using his volume knob in conjunction with his pedals. "Then he's using some kind of analouge tape delay.

Kym Gluyas Hey Kym, you're correct. It's a 4 channel analog tape machine used the late fifties for manually syncing sound tracks to movies. We called it "The Scrubber!" Weighed a metric ton, but made some incredible tones! We loved the catharsis of playing this track live. Thanks for your comments. Davarj ~ pre_shrunk ;)

What's with all the fret buzz and rattling? Poorly set up, or just bad technique?
@TheTonyFigueroa
@TheTonyFigueroa 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a bad set up or bad technique. Many players prefer a low action for ease of playing and transition between techniques such as slapping and tapping. The trade off is that very low action robs the strings of their full dynamic range and vibrations. I agree with you that the sound of fret buzz and rattle isn't very agreeable but I think Jonas Hellborg is an excellent musician who plays bass guitar.

+LEX TAYLOR Your kidding me with that bad comment. I wish my technique was that bad. Seriously dude Mr. Hellborgs playing is spot on and he is considered one of the best bass players in the world.

he specifically designed it to look like that, he says that having a bass with that shape and holding it like that is actually most comfortable for him (he has a bad back)

The bass sounds interesting.. but I think ergonomics were out of the question.. His right arm resting on the edge of that fat body for a whole show.. really poor design from a great bass builder. And having the bass so far away from you due to the bass thickness must be awful. Jonas does some interesting stuff in this video, but I guess he is not my kind of bass player because he never caught my ears (not to mention I find his slap playing horribly un-musical).
