It's a tiny unit about half the size of a cashew nut, encased in soft spongy material. Its battery will last three to four months at which point the audiologist removes them and inserts new ones. I've had mine for about ten days. The first night, while sleeping with them, I dislodged the right ear one slightly. It did not hurt, but was uncomfortable. I removed it myself with the little tiny tool that comes with them (my audiologist had taught me how to do it). That was on the weekend with every business closed on Monday for the total eclipse here in the northeast. On Tuesday, my audiologist replaced it with a new one which is fine. The little tool is about the size of a Tootsie Roll and has a ring to attach it to your keys. It also has an end which allows you to hold it to your ear to turn the unit off. Hold it again and it's on. Simple and easy.
