Thanks for the effort in yout video. I never understoond the Santa Fe to be honest. I was in the market for the Tucson, then I tried the Santa Fe, I was thinking it has a different power train as it looked (bigger), then I realized they are almost identical, and it was even a surprise to realize that from inside, Tucson has a bigger cargo space and a larger head space. Weird.
@offtheshelfridesКүн бұрын
After driving the Santa Fe for a week, we liked it a lot, but it was a bit bigger than we needed. We bought a Tucson hybrid and realized that inside, the space was the same, the exterior of the Santa Fe was bigger. I agree with you, but the 2024 Santa Fe was completely redesigned and is much bigger.

I just bought a Select S with the naturally aspirated 4 cylinder. With 4000 miles on the odometer, I’m getting 32-33 mpg on the highway and 27-28 combined city/highway. I drive the speed limit at 70 mph on the highway. No complaints on the fuel economy levels, it’s a fun car. If Mazda were smart they would keep the re-design minimal, add some technology and see where it goes. I find CX 5 owners love their cars.

looks like you had the vehicle in "EV" mode at the start (Looking at the Dash display and theme), which is why the engine never ran in your first 30 odd miles. Would be interesting to see the results in you had it in "Normal" from the start. I expect you wouldn't have seen the battery fully discharge and it would have used more gas power. It would be really interesting to see if that had any effect on MPG's overall for the 103 miles driven.
@offtheshelfrides4 күн бұрын
The normal mode starts in EV and runs out the battery 1st. That is the whole point of driving a PHEV.

Only owner of 2016 X5 40e plug in. I have found that each system has advantages. Battery for low speed and gas for highway speeds. Can the CX90 be manipulated to force ICE on the highway and EV in the city? I think the drive mode would force EV as long as the battery has a charge?
@offtheshelfrides5 күн бұрын
Yes, you can switch between engine only and EV mode, you can also charge the battery while driving although you will likely lose 1-2 mpg.
@andrewhealy44905 күн бұрын
This was supposed to review the Santa Fe PHEV. The car you show throughout the video may be a hybrid, but it’s not a PHEV because there’s no charging port shown on the outside. So it’s hard to tell whether all the performance you describe also applies to the PHEV. Also, what did you not like about the vehicle? Only saying good things about it takes away from your objectivity.
@offtheshelfrides5 күн бұрын
Yes, it is the PHEV. There is an Electric Only Range Test on the channel also, and a Real World MPG Test. I was thoroughly impressed by this Sante fe. We, my wife and I, both did not find anything we didn't like. If I find something I Don't like or find annoying, I do say so. We only have these for a week, so we don't always find problems or issues that we might find after a month or year of driving it everyday.

Real world driving, (not a test loop). My daily commute is 48.5 miles each way. I have a 2023 XLT Hybrid. I have put just over 23,000 miles on it since I bought it Sept 8, 2023. My commute consists of 48.6 miles each way, of that 34 miles is Interstate, with Speed Limits of 70, 65, and 55 mph. My real world MPG, (calculated using the Fuelio app), is 39.47. It varies based on weather, (colder is worse). During the winter months I averaged only about 36.5 mpg, during the rest of the year I have averaged about 42 mpg. I have found the truck computer to be 2.5 to 3 mpg "optimistic" compared to actual calculations. That said 39.5 mpg over 23,000+ miles in the 10 months I have owned it matches my Chevy Cruze Eco, that my Maverick replaced, PLUS I can carry gas cans, and other items I could not carry in my car. I do have a Leer High Rise Cap on the Maverick, which did not seem to affect my MPGs at all. It was installed in January, (so during the colder weather), but I am still seeing 42-43 mpg, (actual calculated), right now during the warm weather. Prior to that I had a "roll up" soft tonneau cover over the bed. I live in Maryland, so the winter weather is NOT extreme cold, nor the length of cold, that some may face in the more northern regions. I have , of course, had "outlier" tanks where I got extremely good, or bad mpgs. According to Fuelio's calculations, my best tank was 45.81 mpg, and the worst was 33.51 mpg. My last tank filled on July 4th, was 42.23 mpg. I have found the Engine RPM's routinely stay around 2,100 to 2,500 with moderate acceleration. They only go higher than that with "foot on the floor" driving. So the RPMs don't bother me too much. I use an OBD II Bluetooth dongle, running through an app on my phone for real time data, which includes RPM, Engine Coolant Temp, & HV Battery Level of Charge. The truck will run on electric, (power load permitting) until the HV battery gets down to 31-34%. Once the ICE turns on it will not shut off until the coolant temp tops 120 degrees F. (If the heater is on, it will take it higher, and the ICE will turn on more often as required by the cabin heater). The HV battery pack goes down to about 32% and up to about 72%. Very rarely will it go beyond those high and low marks. Oh, and for correctness, the color of your Maverick is Atlas Blue, NOT Alto Blue. Alto Blue is the very dark Blue color, (mine is Alto Blue).
@offtheshelfrides5 күн бұрын
Wow! That's a lot of great information! Yes, it is Atlas Blue, I don't know where I pulled alto blue from. But the dark blue(that looks black at certain angles) is Antimatter Blue. Is that what you have?

I live in an apartment in Pennsylvania and the winter proved to be challenging as well. Do not leave your Ioniq 5 outside when the temperature is below freezing. A good 10-speed auto tranny would have made this a different kind of beast. It also would have allowed it to get much better fuel economy. I feel like Toyota rushed the production of this vehicle. They claim that they couldn't put even an 8-speed into this because it couldn't fit. However, I call BS because the Lexus LC500 has a 10-speed auto and it's a much smaller vehicle than this. Hence why I stated that this vehicle was rushed to production. The Grand Highlander is still impressive, but I feel like it could have been much, MUCH better.

Just drove this for the first time for the weekend. I loved it. But it definitely feels bigger but not as much storage as it could have with all that space. And compared to the cx9, when you take turns it does feel a little wobbly but it's not a deal breaker. I'm still looking at buying the cx9 since repairs on this vehicle will most likely be very expensive due to the fact that the timing chain was placed in back of engine and will require the engine to be lifted for many major repairs. But i do love that HUD, by far one of my favorite features along with wireless Android Auto.
@offtheshelfrides14 күн бұрын
It is really nice, but I wouldn't put a lot of weight into having to replace the timing chain. Mazda has really good engines and most failures happen before the warranty is up.

I am not really finding any reviews on how much storage there is with the seats down. A lot of people use vans for hauling sports gear and sleeping in on occasion. (think surfboards, kayaks bikes) So not all van users are interested in how many children and sticky toys you can haul around. Same goes for minivans. How about having sex in it? To all those people commenting that 260 miles is not enough, it is much larger and less aero dynamic than most electric cars. If it charges to 80 percent in a half an hour you could charge it for lunch and drive for four hours in the morning at 65. I think those people have never really owned an electric car. We are all going to die from global warming so just maybe a slight inconvenience might be worth the trouble ehh? My electric cars are charged 100% off my roof top solar when in town.
@offtheshelfrides21 күн бұрын
Yes, 260 miles is plenty. I always try to explain it as, 260 miles is just over 4hrs of driving. I don't know many people that can drive for 4hrs without having to stop for a bathroom break. I'm lucky to push 2 1/2 hrs before needing the bathroom. In that 15 min bathroom and snack break, you can add another 70-100 miles....
