I’ve just taken mine out for about the 3rd or 4th time. It’s not hard to get the roof out, it’s getting the thing back in is the pain. Specifically the two outermost bolts of the 7 holding the hoop to the chassis. Any tips on how best do get these threads to catch would be appreciated.
@chuck74325 ай бұрын
I did not have a problem with reinserting my bolts. Try to only insert all bots very loosely at first. or insert the outer bolts first and work your way to middle. thanks

Have you done your trans oil yet?
@msgmak13799 ай бұрын
I just did at 76k miles.You must take it to a real transmission shop to have it done. FYI....its not just the fluid that gets replaced. They replace the filter along with a new oil pan...it comes as one unit. Cost here in AZ was $1100. Sounds expensive until you look at what a new transmission costs.
@MrMattMohler9 ай бұрын
@msgmak1379 I did mine. Got a pan from PPE and now has a replaceable filter. Cost $287 +fluid that I got a hook up on... (fluid is OEM...) Wasn't to bad of a job, just allot of steps...

Didn't show or mention that the gasket seat on the block should be checked and cleaned. The filter gasket should be lightly coated with clean oil. If possible on vertical filters, they should have oil added into them before installing, and should NEVER use a wrench to tighten the filter.
@chuck74325 ай бұрын
thanks for the input. but as mentioned in the video it is not for neophytes. I clearly state that I'm sure all that is watching already do and know what you suggest is good practice. i wasn't going to beat that dead dog. The intent was to show how to "attack" the oil filter for removal.
@NESig Жыл бұрын
The filter's not difficult to get to at all. Oil just drains down on the power steering unit unless you put a catch pan under the filter of some kind. I use a flex funnel myself. The gallon size baggie method works reasonably well too.
@chuck74325 ай бұрын
perhaps yours is 2WD? 4WD has the torsion bar in the way.

I took a disposable aluminum baking sheet and bent it to fit under the filter and around the steering mechanism down to my catch pan. Works like a charm and I haven’t had a single drop of oil get onto the steering.

I want to thank you so much for this video post. I have been dreading the oil change in my 2023 Rebel after reading about the engineering debacle that is the Ram Hemi oil filter location. I finally got brave and did it this afternoon. It took 55 mins altogether with meticulous tarping and prep for this job. All thanks to you. Accessing the filter from the front is simple. I also invested in a 4-inch "oil udder" (look that up) and simply fitted it around the filter and hand loosened the filter (after using a wrench to loosen) and no mess at all - everything funneled into my catch pan. I could not be happier. Thanks again!

Just want to add that I took out my motor from the trunk. It was definitely the oem motor still. It's not easy and took a good 2 hours of fiddling with it getting my hands in there to cut the zip ties and everything. It can be done but it almost might be easier to remove the top. Now I have to remove the top anyway because 6 months later my hinges are leaking

Hi Chuck great video, I bought a z4 with the roof not working so I've pulled the red loop in the boot, removed the shelf and closed the shelf switch. The roof unlatched when I pressed the button so I pushed the roof up and back, it went down easily but seems to be stuck about 3 inches from fully open. Could this be the hinges? Thank you
@dorianrees3 жыл бұрын
Hi - can I ask if your roof worked out of the car pre-fix? Mine works out of the car but not afterwards when it’s reinstalled (it’s driving me mad...). Have replaced the motor, no obvious hydraulic line pinching, sensor at the back is bunged, manual release lever is fine etc.
@chuck74323 жыл бұрын
After repair and installation of hydraulic hinges, I never tested my roof when removed. I was sure it was good and did not want to run hydraulic hinges for fear of damage to the frame since there is no resistance to the hydraulic pressure. That said, when installed, roof worked perfectly. Since your roof works out of car, it is only using the motor; however when installed and the wiring is reconnected is the problem. The wiring protects and prohibits roof operating under certain conditions . Check your connectors are all fully seated including the small one at the white box. Any Yellow lites on (instead of red) will stop roof from operating. Improper installation of the rear tray will cause this, by not engaging the metal contact switch. I initially installed tray and the switch was ABOVE the tray "finger". Yellow light was on. I removed tray, made sure "finger" was ABOVE switch and reinstalled. And than worked fine- Check out this possibility . Check to see if tray switch is present, maybe it broke off? Manual pull is only to unlock the catch and you can eliminate this. you also can eliminate hydraulic lines, hinges, since works out of car. Dont know what "bunged" means. You must have an electrical connector incorrect, not fully seated or not connected, or tray switch problem, or did not the lower the rear tray? That's all I got but feel free to respond again. Good luck.

@@chuck7432 I was looking for your 2nd video. this one labeled as part 1. couple of question. i got my hinges back after repair. mid way I realized there were mention of small metal shims between the hinges (not sure 1 or both screws) and frame where those 2 Torx T40 bolts goes. i think i did not pay attention when i took off and lost it since. I am sure I can substitute with something do you know what their sizes or look like? I meticulously marked and put them in separate Ziploc bags. except those shims. appreciate your response

Also did you have to bleed the system. or just fill in and go it's bleed itself. Top Hydraulic guys tells me to bleed 1st but i also saw its a self bleeding system
