My first listen to BABYMETAL was Gimme Chocolate and i was wtf is this ? But i was interested and listened to more of them. I think it was Headbanger who turned me into a Fan and i regret not a single Second of it. Many People heared Gimme Chocolate and thought nah thats not good but if you give them a Chance you will discover that they are so ambivalent with their Music they have something for almost everyone.

All I can say is that they popped on my Spotify radio after I was listening to another Japanese band ( ATARASHII GAKKO!) who aren’t heavy but have great bangers, and was vibing until they transitioned into a fucking two step and I immediately had to look at who it was. It’s their fourth most played song on Spotify.

Since you asked I'll add some songs by similar artists for you to check out: Hanabie "My Type" their latest and damn heavy. Band Maid: "Domination Live". Most peoples entry point for the maids. Maximun hte Hormone w/ Atarashii Gakko: "Shimi" (a remake of their original). Hanabie started out as a band covering their songs. Toranoko Rammy: "The End - Live" An amazing song. Nemophila: "G.O.D". One of their latest songs. Super heavy.

Yes. This about Oli. Phil has not held anything back. He’s thought of her as nothing but a garbage human from the start. Oli died a week after a huge life insurance policy on him was renewed. Their house was in foreclosure at the time as well. Suddenly the house was paid off, and she had a new Maserati in the driveway and she’s living the good life. 🤷🏻♂️ Do the math.

Awesome reaction! You mentioned Paledusk, which really bring the chaos akin to Maximum The Hormone. Still not sure if they were really influenced by MTH, but Hanabie certainly was. So maybe you can catch some similarities there. Aside from that, both bands do their own thing now. Keep it going 🤘

The Japanese instrument is a koto, but it is plucked quite hard so it almost sounds like a Shamisen. A koto is a lay down zither that has many strings and a plucking melodic sound. A Shamisen is a Japanese banjo with three nylon strings and a huge plektrum. Just like a banjo, its not really melodic.

The name "Hanabie" translates to "cold flowers" but is really about a late frost after the first cherry blossoms are blooming (probably why their first EP is called Cherry Blossoms are Blooming). Their original drummer came up with the name when they were in an all-girls jr. high/high school together (she quit the band after the first year to focus on her studies, and they had session drummers, friends, etc. behind the kit for a long time). The name represented the band members' birthdays, because they were all born in the winter except for Yukina, who was born in April. They started as a Maximum the Hormone coverband in 9th/10th grade. Yukina (growls/rapping, and who's 4'10") said at first she didn't know if she could pull it off and only became the vocalist because she didn't know how to play an instrument (haha). After they got 2nd place in a national after-school band competition called "School's Out" they decided maybe they should keep going with it (there are some videos out of their performances, and they were amazing even back when they were 16-17 years old). They struggled for a long time and just recently started breaking out. 2025 will be their 10th year. Their first EP was produced by Gaku Taura, the tour drummer for Crystal Lake, who supported them a lot in the beginning and encouraged them not to quit. Matsuri (guitar/clean vocals) is the band leader and writes all the music (though she's said the rest of the band has a lot of input). They all write their own parts of the lyrics (so usually Yukina and Matsuri). They usually have pretty strong social messages, and a very strong punk/metal influence because that's the music Matsuri's parents listened to when she was growing up. Hettsu (bass) does all their outfits and visuals, and I read she even brings a portable sewing machine on tour to make new outfits for them. Maximum the Hormone has a huge influence over Japanese heavy music, especially female bands, because the drummer Nao formed the band in 1999 and showed a lot of girls that they could play this kind of music too (I've seen them compared to Velvet Underground as far as how influential MTH has been). Hanabie. has a live version of Pardon Me I Have to Go Now on their channel if you want to see what they're like live. They found their style in their 2nd MV, L.C.G., back before they had a drummer (after that they had Sae for about 3 years; this is her last video. Chika joined them right before they went on tour less than 2 years ago, but she's amazing--she was a drum instructor before joining, and played in a j-pop or jazz band. She tried out based on another teacher's suggestion, and said she immediately knew it was her destiny to play with Hanabie.. She literally quit her job as a teacher at a vo-tech school to become a rock star, start making music videos, and go on a world tour less than 2 months later. All the videos after this one are Chika--I agree with others that you should check out their newest video Ito Okashi My Type, which is about the Meyers-Briggs personality test). before LCG they were trying to fit into the male-dominated metal scene with all black, "no smiles" as Matsuri put it. They even spattered one of Yukina's school shirts with red paint to look like blood lol. After LCG, they realized that this was more their scene, and Harajuku Core was born! Literally everything they've done is amazing. Always love watching people find Hanabie.. Subbing just so I can watch you guys go down this hole. If you like the screams, my favorite video to watch Yukina is Tousou, which is also Chika's first music video ever. Edit: There is this concert in Taiwain pro-shot live, too. It's not on their channel (I think it's the venue's channel): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIC1i3utfat_epI And here is how to say "Hanabie" straight from the band: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKOthpqhra6fi9E

The true evolution of modern music is happening in Japan. This band is blending genres and attitudes to create the most interesting style in years. Welcome to _Harajuku-core!_ Hanabie's music style, nicknamed Harajukucore, is derived from the famous Harajuku district in Shibuya that inspires their look and sound. Harajuku is world famous for its street fashion, shopping, and youth culture. As you could see and hear in this video, Harajukucore is an energetic mix of metal, electronic, rock, punk, rap, pop, and sometimes traditional instruments. The members are Matsuri - guitar, vocals, compositions. Yukina - growls/clean vocals. Hettsu - bass, chorus. They are the 3 core members of the band who formed back in jr. high school almost 10 years ago. On the drums here is Sae. She left soon after the video was released and was replaced by Chika almost 2 years ago. 'Pardon me, I have to go now' is the song that went viral and made everyone take notice of *Hanabie.* This is Hanabie's indictment of Japanese office life at a "black company" (highly exploitive work environment). The phrase "osaki ni shitsurei shimasu" is spoken aloud to the office and the manager when a worker leaves before everyone else. In the video we see the band going through various office scenarios such as Matsuri (vo/gtr.) is being buried under paperwork. Sae (dr.) tried to take a break on the roof, but the boss tracked her down immediately. Hettsu (bass) is reduced to being a servant and getting the boss tea. Yukina (vo) is being groped/harassed by the boss. The ladies are then expected to go to a drinking party after work with the boss. The little "peck on the ground" dance is mocking the fact that you have to bow to superiors constantly making you look like a chicken pecking the ground. Peko! They have a lot of songs about serious social subjects but always deliver their message in an entertaining way. Here's a few song recommendations for you - 'We Love Sweets', 'Ito Okashi My Type', 'NEET GAME', 'Otaku Lovely Densetsu', 'Envy', 'Reiwa Dating Apps Generation', 'Tousou' (run away)

Hanabie is pronounced with four syllables: ha-na-be-eh. Chika joined shortly after this video was released and midway through the album recordings, so Sae was still the drummer at this time. Chika's first video is "Tousou (Run Away)." This is actually the first of four videos (so far) that tell an evolving story arc featuring the "bad boss" character. In order, those are "Pardon Me (I Have to Go Now)," "Tousou (Run Away)," "Be the Gal: Early Summer Ver." (his character only has a cameo on an advertising flier in this one), and "Girls Talk." As for the background instrument, most people identify it as a shamisen (Japanese banjo), but some have noted that it may actually be a combination of two instruments, shamisen and koto (Japanese zither), as there are a couple spots where you can hear that the instrument lines end at slightly different times, indicating there are two instruments. Hanabie will be embarking on another US Tour this spring co-headlining with Kim Dracula. I'll be at the St. Louis show in March!
@atlasisshrugging29 күн бұрын
It's definitely a koto. A shamisen is percussive, like a banjo. Kotos come in different sizes, so this accounts for the higher pitch. Also, you can hear the resonance in the tone; it sounds like a harp being played with a guitar pick, which is exactly what a koto sounds like. (They're played with something like four picks on the player's right hand; watch a video of Kiyoshi Ibukuro from Wagakki Band. He typically has three or four kotos at a given concert.)

With Hanabie you have now met the most creative and probably best all-female metal band from Japan. Many of Hanabie's songs have some tempo and style changes and also some other genres incorporated into the songs. This song was Hanabie's international breakthrough, you should also take a look at the beginnings, for example with the song L.C.G (Lollypop Candy Girl). It all started with Hanabie when the band was still an afternoon group at school and mainly covered Maximum The Hormone. You should also definitely check out this inspiration from Hanabie. Maximum The Hormone are legendary in Japan and very influential on many musicians and bands. Their song Shimi feat. Atarashii Gakko was one of the best metal songs of 2024. To hear the perfect pronunciation of Hanabie (Hah - Nah - Bee - Eh with four syllables), simply copy and paste 花冷え。 into Google Translate and have the word read to you, nothing could be easier or faster.

I thought the album was solid wasn't a fan of the rapping in Enough? was kind of cringey and Youth Decay sounded pretty generic other then those two songs I liked all the other ones. So really there's 8 songs on this album cause that intro track before Hatred doesn't really count as a song it's just a buildup into Hatred. Loved all the singles including the last single they dropped before the album River Of Sorrows. Also liked With Hope You'll Be Damned & Don't You Ever Stop. I'd say overall wish the album was a bit longer with 2-3 more songs and not have that intro track before Hatred. I prefer Zelli's scream rap style other then his clean rap style in Enough for example and wish the breakdowns and riffs were a bit more original sounding. Overall I give this album a rating 7/10. \m/
