51:30 I guess I could blame this on time pressure, but really no excuse to miss Qxd8+.

21:01 I think it is an instructive moment for players under 2000. Never just snatch material when it appears you are getting something for free, even a pawn. Especially in these moments you should be even more suspicious and go through checks to make certain there is no trick or trap being played.

01:59:43 My opponent was very low on time with 18 seconds left in d5 control and hung his knight on b6 and resigned.

02:52:45 I thought this was an instructive moment. The concepts of reducing and simplification are very valuable to win quickly. After rook takes b6 my opponent has to choose between letting me have the b pawn or else trading down into a simply lost position, and so he resigned.

2:07:44 The game is over at this point. Once the rooks come off the board and you are left with just kings and pawns, I first learned from GM Novikov you should be able to tell if the game is a win, loss, or draw. The rest of the moves almost play themselves as Magnus would say.

1:09:00 It was a fun middle game for an extended time with all of the knights and bishops still in play, a lot to calculate. I kept trying to find the puzzle to solve for a win. But Michael played well and had too many counter tactics so I eventually had to trade down and revert back to controlling d5 to try to win.

This was a pretty complicated middle game. My opening defense was a bit messy against the English. I usually prefer it transpose to something more common, or more common to me. Michael seemed very surprise at Nf8 at 29:50. I wanted to develop the Queen's bishop for black, but also did not want to trade it off so I left it to move the knight to a better square at e6 or g6. I figured I had time as he was surely developing his king side to castle that direction. I wasn't sure about castling king side or queen side myself, but then figured it would be just as well to wait. I eventually did castle queen side 1:36:13 to develop the queen's rook as well as moving the king to a slightly safer square.

32:50 Nxc6 is a move I wonder over as a 1950 player. Is it correct? I don't think black minds white making the trade.

28:30 Interesting position, Ne4 is just even after all. I like to get in h6 for black but maybe it is dangerous if white can find a good reason to sacrifice.

01:44:26 Here pushing the h pawn and giving up the c pawn was a dead draw, but these few moves hold the two pawns. Then I believe black could win by bringing his king to g8. Then white cannot hold the black king back and stop the h pawn both.

01:41:00 Ba6 for black was the move I was unsure of. Perhaps it sat better at b7, but I was hoping the threat would distract attention away from the e file.
