Now she can! Shelties are hardwired to bark, but with enough training, they can be asked to stop :)

Maple likes to go onto the grass to pee but not necessarily to poop, so we use a pee pad at home! She heads down for a pee during her walks though.

Awww. Maple is beautiful! I have two Shelties (Cooper and Casey) and they don't like water or the beach and I live in Florida! I put them in my pool as puppies on the surf board and they hated every minute of it. Cooper barks at the waves.

You dont need a blow dryer just give it 4 towels on the floor and a long run outside after

This is so cute! My dog used to distrust everything I did and fight hard. Now, I'll hold out whatever I'm going to use on him, for example medicated ear drops, and he'll sniff it and get this slightly worried look on his face, lick his lips, and lower his head, and then he slowly turns his head and presents his ear to me. I didn't even teach him to do this, i guess he just recognized that I'm doing it for his own good and he trusts me enough to submit.

Your channel is great. I just found it and signed up right away.I too have a16 wk. old Sheltie boy and he bites me all the time. Also he is a pest when trying to walk on leash. He jumps up and down, bites my shoes and purse, lunges at cars and bicycles. Do you experience this? Any suggestions? He also is not completely toilet trained. I have had girl Shelties before and they seemed much more manageable than a boy. His name is Walker.He looks just like Maple.

Hi there, thanks for leaving us a comment and subscribing! Yup, Maple did that quite a bit when she was younger. We found that when we were quick enough to catch her when she misbehaves, we would ignore her, then give her another command. If she follows that command, then we would reward her for showing that positive behaviour. If Walker's food-motivated, we found that it was useful when we brought treats out. This way, we taught Maple to "heel" each time, rewarding her behaviour. Shelties are really intelligent, so it would not be long before they understand what we want! Toilet training takes a while - Maple took about a good year before we trusted her toilet training. Walker sounds like a good boi - we will be sure to put up some tips of training in the future if you're interested in watching those! :)

Our sheltie had a schedule of "food at 5PM." We taught her "wait" in less than a week. When she died, the chipmunks tunnled under the yard and collapsed our deck. Good dog.
