the wobble you have can be fixed easily. the front group does not have separation is has a specific haze. In my experience this lens does not suffer from schneidereitis but has small circular haze build up on the glass that reflects on the black paint and looks like schneidereitis. The front group can be removed and the glass too but by a very good craftsman who can cut the edge with a fine saw. I did this yesterday after buying this lens after watching your video. I have a decade of camera repair experience and even for me it was challenging to work that precisely while cutting. I am located in Austria if you ever wish to get it serviced.

Thanks for your comment. I actually just use the lens when I want some extra character in my photos. Otherwise I use a different 28mm. I appreciate the offer. Will keep you in mind if/when I decided to get it repaired.

@@ShawnPBruce the wobble you can fix yourself! in the back you will see that there are two retaining rings, one around the back element and one outer ring with two notches, using two flathead screwdrivers, or better a lens spanner wrench you can tighten it, doesnt need to be too tight just enough to not wobble. its a cheap fix and id recommend doing it

Thanks for the review! Do you feel like the Leica 28mm 1.4 is that much better than the Typoch? Like how much sharper did you feel it was
@ShawnPBruce5 күн бұрын
I haven’t really had a chance to test the Leica 28mm Summilux enough to make a conclusion. The Leica lens design is ten years old now, so depending on what advancements they’ve made in manufacturing or glass production, the Thypoch could be pretty even. I’m still using my Thypoch 28mm daily and love it. It’s been fantastic.

At 2:15 ...the Minolta looks like it was shot on some Agfa or Konica negative film. Looks so good! I love the low contrast and slight cyan tint. It's not good for high contrast scene or landscapes but it shines with portraits! Maybe the lens can use a CLA but as a people lens it works really well.

Absolutely agree, love the skate pictures. But also the fact that you shoot with a rangefinder. I’m using the 260, also the TTArtisan 11mm and a 135mm Elmar. What flashes are you using? And which 90mm do you have?Also thinking to get one. I know, I know, gear questions are boring. Thanks and looking forward to new videos.
@ShawnPBruce4 ай бұрын
I actually love talking about gear. I'm using the Konica 90mm f2.8; I have mixed emotions about it. It's sharp when the focus is right, but I struggle to get the focus right for some reason. It's so sensitive. I had a Leica 90mm f4 and I regret selling it now. Lately I've just been using the 50mm Summicron for longer lens stuff. I'd say 99% of the photos with flash were done with the LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II. I absolutely love it. Mine broke because I wrecked skating. I'll definitely buy another though. Otherwise, I use two Godox v860iii flashes with a wireless transmitter.
@DanielMista4 ай бұрын
Will check the f4 90mm. Thanks. Thought about getting the older Summicron 90mm for a bit more background blur and separation but focus might get tricky, agree. Also have a Godox v860ii and a SF60 with transmitter. In bright daylight it sometimes struggled to bring up enough power. I am now waiting for a Nissin MG10 flashgun for extra power. Not sure if it is worth it though.
@ShawnPBruce4 ай бұрын
@@DanielMista I've definitely had times when the speed lights were more fill than main light. I also have the AD200 and AD600 when I really need power, but I've rarely taken them out for skating stuff.

Thanks for the review, Shawn! Did you notice that the color of the exterior faded? My only concern regarding some of the black bags is most fade overtime.
@ShawnPBruce4 ай бұрын
I'm sure it's probably faded more than I realize. I have noticed that marks show up easier now. I has been my everyday carry bag for over a year now, so I'm sure the sun has done some damage. Happy to send you some photos if there's something particular you want to see. I have another Bellroy bag I could compare the fading too. If you want, send me a message IG and I can send a comparison. (@shawnpbruce)

Can you still operate the camera without batteries (i.e. no metering)?
@ShawnPBruce4 ай бұрын
I haven't tried using it without batteries, but I'm pretty sure the meter is the only thing using the batteries. It's basically a Best R2 with a different paint job. It's a neat camera. I'll probably have mine forever.

Can I ask how long the strap on your bag is fully extended? Because mine is too short, I am unable to use it. I've seen a couple of reviews before I bought it and I am thinking something went wrong with my strap... fully extended it is about 40 inches and the padding is always in a place at my neck or chin, it's totally useless, no matter on which side I try to wear the bag. The strap on the 9L i got is 13 inches longer and I can't help but wonder if that's supposed to be like that... I totally love the bag, so I just switched the straps, don't miss the padding and don't mind the color (brown vs black as I got the nightsky 10L but the orange/rust 9L), but it seems weird.
@ShawnPBruce4 ай бұрын
It looks like mine is 44 inches from end to end when fully extended. I wonder if you reach out if they'll have a longer strap. I wouldn't hate a longer strap either, really.

@NinaSusanneOfenloch4 ай бұрын
So. Sent a note to Bellroy. Was told the strap of the 9L is 30cm longer than the one for the 10L. Was told my strap still is 20cm below spec. Was told to go and buy a suitable strap SOMEWHERE ON THE INTERNET. Seriously. Done with this brand. 200 Euro bag, below par strap and they're saying go spend more money to get it fixed. Now I am pi**ed

@@NinaSusanneOfenloch that is insane. The didn't make any effort to rectify the situation?!
@NinaSusanneOfenloch4 ай бұрын
@@ShawnPBruce Update: I was suoset with the first response and sent them another email (I might have been a tad annoyed when I did that) saying that for 195 Euros I really should be entitled to a strap that has the right specs. They then wanted a picture showing the strap was too short, I provided that, they then wanted the batch no of the bag and my order number and said they will send me a replacement bag. Not sure how long this will take. Also no info what I'm supposed to do with the bag and the too short strap I have. I'll wait for more updates.

Thanks for the summary of your experience. I’ve been eyeing the Bellroy slings for a while. I like this camera sling, but wish they had a 4L to 6L version as well. I’m sure a smaller one will come at some point and I’ll likely take the plunge then.
@ShawnPBruce5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering if they'd release other size options. I actually started with their 6 liter Venture Sling. I loved it, but it was a squeeze for my M and an extra lens. The 10 liter gave me enough space when I need to pack it out. It tends to be pretty empty most of the time though.

@@ShawnPBruceas a smaller guy, I always find it kind of intimidating to get the 9L version as it might look too hig on me. In the end, I just can't go out alone without my 750ml Camelbak with me and while it might possibly fit the 6L, I just find it comforting to have a bit more wiggle room ~😁

Hi, I have Q2 Mono for over a year now, and never used a rangefinder. Now I have nice offer for 246 and wonder about two body combo 28 on Q2 and 50 on 246. As I see your choice is sumicron. I think photos are awesome. Is monochrom video also recorded with 246 and is it hard to focus over screen? My main work would be more portraits then street. Anyway nice videos, I just find your YT and you have my sub. Keep doing a great work!!
@ShawnPBruce5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. The video was recorded with the LUMIX S5 actually. I rarely use the screen on the M246. It’s pretty slow and has some jello effects. I tend to zone focus with the system instead. I’ve been using the rangefinder almost daily for five years now, so it’s become second nature at this point as well. I actually prefer the rangefinder over using focus peaking or even autofocus now. I actually use my M bodies for a lot of portraits. There are a few videos on my channel of portrait sessions with an M.

I have several nicer bags but I stick to my small 1st gen Peak Design 5L because it fits a small kit like a Leica M, a couple of lenses and a film P&S. But there is no room for anything else like water bottles or a stuffable wind jacket. I got the 10L but it's clunky and the straps are not my favorite. I like how the Bellroy slings are meant to compact down space that you are not using. The PD bags just stay bulky and hallow. I also love Bellroy's materials. I might have to track on down.
@ShawnPBruce5 ай бұрын
I had the same experience. The Bellroy is pretty flexible. It's still tough to carry a water bottle, but I find a jacket fits into the straps well.

I haven’t really had too many issues. I just posted a BTS video from a recent session and you can see some stills. I had some issues where it would focus on the fence behind the model or would focus on things in front of their face occasionally. Overall though, I found it to be good. For portraits, I tend to put the camera on its human recognition mode. It works well. Occasionally I’ll switch it to single point and then focus and reframe. Really depends on the type of shoot. One thing worth noting though is that Panasonic cameras don’t support HSS (at least from what I’ve been told).
