Love this analogy ! I use the same approach but with straws of same length. This just show us in a simple way, not only what can be heard, but in fact what the player really can feel and see it 👏

Constant AIR is the key to everything. Once you learn HOW to meter your air, you can start to learn how to do everything else. You MUST learn HOW to release the air EVENLY over time.... NO VIBRATO !!

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE !!! This is a nice parlor trick he can do due to his skill. BUT... the MP with the horn is a uniform instrument... and the horn is essential, based upon the resistance it gives us. He actually proves my point when he integrates the MP with the horn. As he plays, he uses the characteristics of the horn to push THROUGH the phrase... with added emphasis at key points to maximize its lyrical nature. You can screw-up yourself... and your brain... if you BUZZ. There are so many subtlties we combine together in our performance when we play the MP&horn... like air release, embouchure adjustments, using the resonance of the horn in our favor. DO NOT BUZZ. Because it's NOT THE SAME.

That posture can easily become a rigid harness. To be relaxed and postured at the same time needs guidance or luck. For a beginner, nowadays I would first go for relaxation, then for easy and full breathing from relaxation and only then ad posture to it from the perspective of the breathing.

Classical players often have these esoteric "trumpet is just like meditation" ideas, but most developing players have technical faults that require direct language and conscious correction and no amount of sitting in a lotus posture will fix them.

Way to purposely misunderstand the video. When you've taught countless lessons where simply telling the student what they need to do doesn't work, even when you know it's the right instruction, a new approach is needed. This is an example of a more oblique approach that may work with some students. Everyone learns differently.

I'm really hopeful working on this might help me get my stoopid overactive brain out of the way while I'm trying to play music. When I'm unable to execute passages that are difficult for me, it's almost always due to my brain over-thinking and tripping me up.

Good references are Maurice André and Adolf Scherbaum... both being European performers who were "dialed into" the Baroque style. Caleb properly demonstrates the slight delay in the trill. He knows...

This is one of the BEST postings yet placed on tonebase... Caleb is identifying subtleties that are not typically addressed. For those who are old schoolers, we learned this by listening to various performers and styles. Then we sought to model it without consciously thinking about the specific factors at play. We just DO it.

NOT CONVINCED.... So much of what we do is directly associated with the HORN. Our bodies develop a relationship with all of the aspects that we must apply when playing the horn. For me, long-tones get me centered... pure release of air without ANY vibrato. In that way, i hear everything. FWIW... Wayne Bergeron adheres to the same school of thought I've developed over the years.

@jaegertiger384
@jaegertiger384 8 күн бұрын
@da11king. As I said. Go to KZbin and search for Wayne Bergeron addressing a Masterclass where he demonstrates WHY buzzing DOESN'T work and why it actually hurts you. My contention is that the Horn and MP are a complete system, and you MUST play that complete system all the time so every aspect of what your body does aligns with that entire system. If buzzing is so good then why don't, clarinetists, saxophonists, oboeists, bassoonists, and flautiists "buzz" on their MPs, but the stupid trumpet world thinks we're unique ??? And to add insult to injury, when have you seen trombonists, french hornists, and tubists "buzz" on their MPs as a SERIOUS exercise?? But for SOME magical reason, trumpets are different? Right there is your answer. The Trumpet world has been duped. PLAY THE ENTIRE SYSTEM TOGETHER.. like they are meant to be played. And stop messing with your head by going down the road of "buzzing" that actually HARMS you.
@jaegertiger384

Of note... you allow the last note to DRIFT AWAY... rather than stopping it all of a sudden. This is the key to phrasing.
@jaegertiger384
@jaegertiger384 Ай бұрын
Her demonstration reinforces the reason why I dislike "buzing." Because there are SO many different factors at work when playing the Trumpet, the only way you can get the proper "feedback" to your brain is the actually PLAY the trumpet.... NOT buzz.

What about SCHLOSSBERG ???? The concept is CONTINUITY of sound... so there is an even flow. Disagree about the issue of breath... as i think Estaban Batallon does. The breath comes from the stomach/diaphragm. Good demonstration of the legato passage.

A "good sound" is not related to pressure, dynamics are. Pressure is required DEPENDING on loudness of tone. Good tone depends on an embouchure that can create it regardless of the pressure provided. This is misleading because air pressure will not solve your tone issues.
