What an excellent documentary about the great Duke Ellington, I've loved his music for years but was only nine when he died, so never got to hear the orchestra live. His compositions are wonderful and timeless. He always had such top soloists, Johnny Hodges, Cootie Williams, Harry Carney, Barney Bigard, Jimmy Hamilton, Juan Tizol, Lawrence Brown and Cat Anderson being some of my favourites. I think of Ellington as the Beethoven of jazz. He was right to stick to his principles and not drift off down the be-pop route, that music quickly became tedious and self-indulgent for the most part.

We can even go into Hindu languages the oldest inform of Sanskrit and others speak of Atlantis before the fall-before that and way past where the language is lost- Intelligence is recycled. Olympic torch. The system he is creating given the time was to protect a “consciousness of a people” who having lost their languages, names and tradition- he was reminding them of Egypt to perpetuate that they come from something- to make them feel proud of themselves- All mankind are images of God.

Where was he when black kids had to enter white schools through throngs of angry, violent white adults? What did he do for the 1.4 million black teachers who lost their jobs as a result of Brown v Education? Thurgood Marshall was as useless & just a token as Clarence Thomas is today. None of C Houston’s efforts were/are beneficial to melanated Americans.

I call myself an environmentalist and it’s not because I just want a clean place to live for myself. It’s because I do think that human activity affects the livability of the planet and for one generation to steal that livability from the next generation is generational theft.

You know with your dumb ass Mark did you know the Dolphins were land animals before they learned how to live in the ocean with tales and get free rides from boat week when they pitch 26° their tail eat all they want. full buffet? Red lobster couldn’t even hold that one down but then again it took the dolphins 250, million years to evolve. Learn to not trust the fear base teachings of school and spend more time in nature and you’ll understand . Otherwise, you become a self hating self loathing I’m a leech to the planet, purple haired freak. No matter what you’re feelings are the planet don’t care and it’s gonna be here a lot longer than any of us

I think the main thrust behind Carlin's argument here, is not that we shouldn't try and make a healthy living space for ourselves, but to be honest that *that's* the reason we're doing it, not out of some lofty goal to 'save the planet', but more a goal to 'save ourselves from ourselves', but at the end of the day, if you do love the planet, then don't feel so distraught about what's happening now because it'll bounce back, just as good as before. Yes, it's sad for people who have grown up and loved certain species, and yes, it's wrong...un-natural even, that the die off is happening at such a rapid rate, but die-offs have happened before, at slower rates, and the climate has changed before, at slower rates, so ultimately the planet and its eco-system will bounce back. Humanity might even survive it, we're pretty tough to kill as a species. Our society, as it is right now, however, that will *not* survive. So make the most of this, as crappy as it can be, because I think we're roughly at the high point of humankind.
@Paul-in-Viet-Nam16 күн бұрын
I agree with much of what you stated, but I believe humans have surpassed their apex. People today need "cry rooms" and "safe spaces," not exactly symbols of strength.

Many people completely misunderstood and misused George's words! (SEE COMMENTS). George was an environmentalist and very knowledgeable on the subject. He ""ISN'T"" saying that pollution or global warming isn't a concern and a threat to human existence. What he is saying, that mankind and his pollution is insignificant in terms of the earth, its history and ablity to correct and recover! "It's mankind that is at risk"! Humans are at risk because of pollution and global warming! We are jeopardizing our own existence and much of the ecology we need to survive.
