Thank you Angela, for this absolutely masterful performance, organ-playing at its best! Excellent registrations and fine acoustics in Blackburn! Greetings, from Canada.

Why did thet remove the pipe organ?
@MelaniePlumley23 күн бұрын
I'm afraid I don't know the history in this case. All too often someone feels, often wrongly, that an electronic replacement will save money and be good enough!

@@MelaniePlumley Thanks for the quick reply. Exactly, they can't be compared to a pipe organ. Electronic, sampling, organs are ok for me in chapels of various kinds and in churches that are only used during the summer months and so on. In addition, they can be sufficient in recordings as an instrument in an orchestra, but not as a soloist. Happy New Year. Greetings from Sweden. :)

@@MelaniePlumley Aha Thank you for your quick reply.. No, they usually don't. Personally, I think you can have electric organs in various kinds of chapels and choirs that are rarely used. In addition, they can be used in orchestral works where the organ is not soloistic, I think. Happy New Year from Sweden. :)

What a gorgeous piece. Can't believe I don't know the first two movements. I do play the Menuetto mind. Beautifully played and I loved the registrations. HNY!

Not entirely fair. I've never yet seen a player disappear off down to crypt, until they've left the bench!

I’m very keen to maintain the flow and so count between verses, not just beats but whole bars. I tend to repeat the last 6 chords as a bridge strictly a tempo onto the next verse. They are very long verses and it gives the singers a short break between. The whole congregation starts bang on cue - no guesswork.

The last organ builder I worked for had this CD. I reckon he kept it in his office because he used it as a selling tool for any potential new clients who have never purchased an organ before. One morning, he played it while we were working. I remember when he laughed while the lowest notes of the 32' Violone were being played.

Thank you so much for this version. Solemn yet celebratory, and faithful to the traditional harmonizing that I grew up on. This reminds me of the segment in Ken Burns' history of baseball when Jesse Jackson eulogizes Jackie Robinson.

I have played this hymn on all three organs I am playing at present. This beautiful organ reminds me of the two pipe organs I am playing now and love it.

Very interesting bit about soloing the melody line in the RH while taking the alto and tenor in the left; I’ve advocated this for years but hardly ever heard it done let alone recommended.

I’m sure you never met an organ you did not like Melanie. I think the same way too. It’s always great when you can get around and try them all out.

I'm afraid there are organs I don't particularly like but I'm grateful I get to play so many different ones. If an instrument serves a need then who am I to speak harshly about it? If I don't like an organ, I'm probably won't bother recording and publishing it, unless to point out some curious feature that might amuse someone.
