This will be a fun series to watch for me, as I absolutely LIVED this game when it came out in '02. This was the first game that gave me the freedom to play how I wanted to play, to explore how I wanted to explore. I think it also instilled in me the almost obsessive "grab items regardless of their value and build up your gold reserves" mentality that lives on to this day. What an amazing creation Morrowind is, regardless of its now outdated mechanics. ☮

Going to play Morrowind for the first time... wondering if I should do straight vanilla on the pc, or openmw vanilla+ for better resolution, draw distance, etc. Any advice?
@GeorgeTheBretonАй бұрын
I'm just using steam. I've heard good things about openmw but I haven't tried it yet. Since it's your first time, I'd recommend playing the original version on pc so you know how to compare things if you choose to use openmw in the future.

Choose the breed of your preference; Choose primary and secondary skills, I recommend that you only specialize in one, whether melee or ranged; In short, if you choose the warrior birth sign you will have a better chance of hitting a ranged or melee attack; If you choose to be a magician, choose the magician sign, but you can only use magic; On the other hand, to make a warrior mage you need to select the warrior sign that increases your attack by 10 points, in the same way it works for a ranged mage.

Keep watching and you'll see how eventually I'll master all of melee, ranged and magic. It's totally possible to eventually be good at everything.

I think drain fatigue would of been better than absorb. You could of fit a better absorb health if you did. Since fatigue regens on its own very quickly. It's been a long long time since I played Morrowind though so I'm not sure the cost difference.
@GeorgeTheBretonАй бұрын
I understand what you mean, but I find the absorb fatigue very useful in certain situations. A good example is if I've been running enough to get low enough fatigue to be missing with a weapon I'm not great at, like practicing with axes. Using the absorb fatigue enchantment isn't as strong as drain fatigue for getting the opponent on the ground. But just using Yoto as an offensive healing item that also can minimize the enemy's combat effectiveness while keeping me in tip top shape without having to rely on potions as much has been very satisfying. Sometimes a less powerful enchantment can be more strategically beneficial in the long run. The little bit of health regeneration is usually enough because of how much I tend to dodge. And if I take too much damage, switching to my Muramasa with a stronger absorb health enchantment pairs well with a shield to prioritize defense and healing at the same time.
@mrgodBGАй бұрын
just started watching the series and one thing is badgering me, WHY are you using spear if your strongest stat is with long blade?
@GeorgeTheBretonАй бұрын
I'm glad you asked. Spear is the best way to get +5 to Endurance each level, supplemented by medium and heavy armor. Maxing endurance asap is how you have the most hp long term. It can be tempting to start with your best weapon skill, but it's wisest to use it only when absolutely necessary. Focusing on spear and short blades regardless of your class skills is good for maxing speed and endurance. If you're tough and fast, you can tank and dodge well enough to have the wiggle room to work on all the other skills and attributes more easily. Keep watching and you'll see exactly how my levelling strategy works and plays out!

The design of the world itself is perfection. I can see why Todd Howard was later made head of the company. It’s one thing to make a good, conventional game, but to make an alien society and world is another level of difficulty. He should remain Director for as long as he wants. The mechanics though, ooof. I’ve watched a couple of videos on enchanting, and enchanted one item so far, and I still don’t understand it. I can see why they got rid of the mechanic that determines success/fail of a given action; it’s just sooo difficult to calibrate it in a way that makes sense, or is predictable. I’ve heard that fatigue determines action success, but I’ve also heard that willpower also does, so should I improve fatigue or willpower? It’s confusing af.
@GeorgeTheBreton3 ай бұрын
I couldn't agree more; Todd the god knows what he's doing. I'm excited for TES 6 and don't mind at all that he's taking his sweet time to craft another masterpiece. Morrowind's mechanics are a little complicated. There's a lot of number churning to determine how things work. I've found that success with a skill is mostly about the level of the skill itself, modified by the corresponding attribute. For example, leveling intelligence with alchemy and conjuration practice can improve the quality of the items you enchant. Also, if your skill is under 50, don't try to make anything too crazy. A basic absorb health on a steel or chitin weapon goes a long way. The best way to level your enchanting is to recharge your items often, especially with Azura's Star. Once your enchanting is over 75, you can make some decent constant effect stuff. To answer your question, you should improve both. Willpower also improves your fatigue. I've found that for the best long term characters, you really want to focus on getting speed and endurance to 100 before using any of the other skills much at all. After that, level carefully based on what skills are practical for the quests you're on and make sure to always put 5 points into two attributes and one point into luck. Luck makes the success chance for everything a little better. I hope this helps!
