That's all nice but how do they work in comparison to each other?
@miataboxesАй бұрын
Ah, you again. They are all Salisbury-type clutch LSDs. Without doing A-B-A testing and knowing whether the application is RWD/FWD/AWD, low power or high power,, no conclusions can be made. They are all shipped for maximum or excessive "lockup" (preload, really), presumably so that customers don't complain about wheelspin. If you are searching for laptime improvement, there is no replacement for testing and tuning.

Why remove the damper
@adamgoulder8019 Жыл бұрын
Hi, hoping you're still about and could let me know if you've had experience of an issue I have with my Torsen 2 LSD from my Miata: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWWZl5qHd912apo I have recently swapped the diff for an open one and the clicking that was ever more apparent has gone and had no squealing like in the video albeit I've not driven far on the new diff. I'm hoping it's the taper bearing to the prop shaft, but looking at the shims etc, I wonder if it could be something in the mechanism. I have pulled the case apart and there's no apparent wear, noise or play in the bearings or gear set, a transmission guy said it seemed a solid diff. I didn't strip it all apart as shown in your videos, but I'm thinking maybe that's what I need to do to try to find the issue. Any guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated. @kendrickm2200 has the same issue with his diff.

How can you make a recommendation unless you've driven all three and compared how they work?
@miataboxes Жыл бұрын
Because I've raced for 20 years, including all 3 of these designs and more, and I've built and rebuilt more than 150 LSDs for actual racers using actual laptimes, and this was a teardown comparison in the first place, and 99% of drivers, 99% of the time, are not doing any objective testing at all, and cannot judge an LSD by anything except wheelspin. Buy whatever you or your forum bros prefer "Truth Warrior".

Very interesting. I don't know if you are familiar with with deceleration buzz/hash sounds that develops on many NA M256 5spds. I'm wondering if work forks vibrating in their collars could be a cause ... many experience the noise; no-one that I can find has convincinglyi pinpointed the cause and fix. Any thoughts?

Which fluid do you recommend for the Kaaz 1.5 way LSD? Can't seem to find reliable information online. The car does so street driving, mainly to and from the track, but mostly used on the track. I have looked into Motul gear oils in 75w90 and 75w140 viscosities. Have a hard time deciding between mineral and synthetic fluids. I was told to never use synthetic gear oils in clutch-type diffs. Thanks for the video.

Hi sir i have a 2001 mazda miata SE its got a 3.9 torsen in it and i did a burnout. it broke the axle on the passenger side. I took the rear end out. all the axles as well ofc. the splines where the axles slip into in the diff is okay. splines on the axle right at the tip before the ring were shaved off. I cleaned all the metal out but did not take apart the actual diff. when i looked into the hole where the axle goes into. the washer in there is cracked and I'm trying to rebuild it. i need to get in contact with someone who knows how to rebuild this and where to find the parts. what i need and everything.

The Japanese word "Giken (技研)" is pronounced as "GEE-ken" rather than "GUY-ken". Anyway, good quick comparison of the internal structure of them.
@dawnnadir2 жыл бұрын
The word 技 in Japanese pronunciation is rather similar to Cantonese pronunciation which is supposed to be the authentic ancient Chinese language. Even though the Korean has more similarity with Cantonese than Mandarin.

First clutch disc rotates with the diff case.So no need for a thrust washer in therms of plate friction to case.
@miataboxes4 жыл бұрын
t=1:58, the anodised/alodized case half is already galled/scratched after a few "differentiating" revolutions on the bench. The wear is coming from the "side gear" interface, not the disc (which is bearing against the Bellville spring).

whats the point? diff case and PPF just shatter if you have more than stock power - people getting into RX7`s need to know that you must get gearbox/diff brace, full poly bush of the entire back end of the car and even then the oem diff case breaks - or spend 4/5k getting 8.8 diff fitted (if you can get them to sell you the subframe kit as they rarely respond to emails) basically dont bother, get yourself a nice holiday instead.
@miataboxes4 жыл бұрын
The point, and intended audience, is primarily for road racers, particularly those that are competitively racing Miatas 1.6L and 1.8L Miatas. Enjoy your holiday! :)

Hello, I just installed this LSD on my NC 20019 PRHT AT. Did you have the oil leak issue? The unsealed gap between the shaft and the LSD is around 3 to 5 mm.... I'm wondering either I bought wrong LSD or I've missed any connection part..... Thanks if you have time to advise...

I have a torsen in my trans am. I think it's a t2. I pulled the worm gears out. They have a little pitting on some of the gears. Can this cause any problems or noise? Can it be polished out? If it means it's bad I'm trying to decide if I want to go back with the torsen or a eaten diff. Thanks for your info.

My question exactly!

@@Robberbarron27 I do not think he does them anymore. He rebuilt mine and had it for about 6 to 8 months cuz I wasn't in need of it right away and he finished it up about a year ago maybe. But the last time I talked to him when he was shipping it back to me he said he was going to stop rebuilding them.

I have a type 1 torsen from a 94 miata, from time to time it behaves like an open diff... I got stuck in the snow yesterday and let my car idle in 1st gear and i watched the rear wheels and only the driver side wheel was turning. Is this normal or abnormal?
@thegfxmech54755 жыл бұрын
Trying to start a side hussle by rebuilding local junkyard transmissions but the shipping would cut into profit margins too much to be worth my time. My transmissions would be around 130Lbs. Wondering if this method works still? Is there a rule where you need to be able to carry the box it into the UPS store? If so a dolly might be a good investment.
