Gene was my bus driver (#28!) from 2nd - 5th grade in the late 80s. I randomly searched his name this past week after seeing a school bus (also #28) drive through my neighborhood in another part of the country. What timing. I think the last time I saw him was in the early 90s, when he came through my parents' neighborhood trick or treating with a young Will Baker. My favorite memory was Gene intoning in his "adult voice" (which he could turn on and off like a switch), upon seeing an occupant of bus 28 stick their legs in the air: "Feet! I should NEVER see FEET!" I've used this countless times in the last 30+ years whenever I see something that just shouldn't be, and then tell the origin story of the expression. Thanks for making this video, Will. I haven't been back to Carmel in a long time, and this brings back memories. Hope the family is doing ok.

Gene ran the projection booth for me at Avon Shiloh Crossing Regal Cinema. He was a great guy and this is a super nice tribute to him! I had just talked about him about a week or two ago when I asked another colleague if he knew anything about Gene currently. It turns out that was some kind of divine intervention as it was very close to his passing. I’m sorry for your loss. My best to all the family!

Your father would be very proud of your video. I am also a Carmel boy only 6 years younger. My wife(Maxine) was a Carmel bus driver for 25 years.
