Simple straightforward but needs to be taught. I work in Software and use the phrase with other engineers I'd say a couple of times a week. Learned this in the 80's in HS Shop (small engines actually not Cabinet Making) but this has served me well in everything from DIY projects to Software management. Notes, commonly used and understood marking and I'd even recommend a scrap of paper to act as a log of what is done and what is to do. Awesome video.. So nice to see a working dude without a ten thousand euro slider table saw and planer lurking in the background. Thank you!

The funny thing is that i am willing to bet My Dad showed me this and in 4 or 5 years of "Shop" in public school this must have been showed to my right? [I'm an IT geek not a real carpenter but i have the tools and like to play woodworker on the weekend more tools than skills, mine plus a ton of inherited tools a lot of shit I'm still to even understand.] any way came in the house and the sons had taken the combo squares to use as guns and then disassembled them??? Chock that shit up to another reason Daughters are better.

@bluewoodhandyman3 ай бұрын
Hi. I didn't fix it! It was beyond repair - literally a death trap. Roof terrace over a bedroom. I suspected it was a deadly structure and called a Structural Engineer to inspect. They wouldn't walk on it and confirmed it was unsafe, said it had to be completely removed and rebuilt. Unfortunately a costly unforeseen project for the owners but very thankful it was identified and nobody was injured!

Hi! Noticed the workpro square! How’s the quality and accuracy? Thanks 😊
@bluewoodhandyman3 ай бұрын
Hi. Yes, the Workpro square, there's a few (Combination, Quick, Try Square), I find them fine for quality and accuracy but I do use others too. The Workpro Quick square has a small notch out of it, so it's good if I want to use it for angles other then 90 degrees. For 90 degree marking out on carpentry jobs I use a B&Q Quick square and it's done me well for years, inexpensive, simple, fast, easy all rounder. I find the 300mm Bahco Combination Square great on-site, but the 150mm was no use. Not into brands, just find a tool you like and if it works and you like it - happy days! Cheers.

G clamps? I think they already have a name. C clamps. Unless I’m missing something here. Universally known. Odd oversight in a video about clamps. Even so I’ve subscribed. Edit also the music throughout entire video is highly distracting and overbearing for hearing the information being spoken.

Thanks for this Austin. I enjoyed checking this out. A number of text books only refer to G clamps, online I see they're referred to as G or C clamps. Nice, thanks for the knowledgeable input. Great video! Question I got these new construction doors. They are not real wood. They are like that particleboard/cardboard material. Router?? I just carved out one recessed hinge spot. I had to use a utility knife and kept switching out to fresh blades. It worked. Like a charm. Looks great. But I can’t do that for every hinge. I’ll be on these doors until Fourth of July. Any recommendations? Thank you
@bluewoodhandyman7 ай бұрын
John, yes - use a router. Have you got a router? If not, it doesn't have to be a big router, the small palm Bosch Professional GKF 12 V-8 works great for hinges and may other tasks. With a Straight Router Bit about 19mm, then chisel out the corners. Does that help?
@johnc12807 ай бұрын
@@bluewoodhandyman sir thanks much. Appreciate that. I have my father’s tools. He passed away unfortunately years ago and I have everything of his. He had everything. So, there’s a router but it’s an old one. Craftsman from the 80/90s presumably. it has to be a ‘plunge’ router? Correct? Thanks sir
@bluewoodhandyman7 ай бұрын
@@johnc1280 Sure, happy to help. Regarding the Craftsman router - I can't see it so not sure what kind, it may have a number of bases including a plunge base. If old and hasn't been used, might be worth getting is serviced at your local Tool Hire - they often offer machine service and give you an idea if it's worth service and any repairs or replace it. Cheers.

I needed to cut dovetails in splayed legs for a bench. I cut out the 1-7 triangle from thin panel material. Then added a hole for a bolt to add a little block with another hole. Wingnut to tighten. Set the angle of the little block to my 15 degree splay and I was able to mark my dovetails on the angle.

@@bluewoodhandyman Just imagine a 1/8 plywood triangle. With a bolt through the wide end and a little block of wood on that bolt. I made it 1-7 both sides so it does not have a right angle. Two inches wide. Multiple holes to move bolt and block.
