What do you mean by the head sets? I am about to order these shocks
@DaStuntChannel8 күн бұрын
A far easier and not so risky (to scratch stanchion or damage seals) is just to mount it on the bike, pump it up as much as you can and make it decompress so it equalizes again IE: Pull the seat up while pressing the wheel against the ground

Do NOT do this under any circumstances. You will scratch the shaft and ruin the shock. Do a proper service.

Just did this to my float x. Noticed my lockout and rebound wasnt working...took shock off, and emptied air out and it sucked right in. Feeler gauges worked and air was burped. Seems to be ok now!

Thanks for the tip! I live in Quebec, Canada and my bike was stored in the shed for the winter at -30C, my shock was stucked hard. I did not have a feeler gauge so i cut a strip out of a soda can and it worked fine.

So far I have been able to install the front brake. But, when trying to take off the rear stock back brake it seems that they used a little too much locktite from the factory. I have tried wax and heat both did not work. Any other suggestions?

Thank you for the quick fix! I have had this stuck-down issue twice now with my Monarch RT. Both times I believe it was due to riding in cold temperatures ~30°F and I've since come to find that RS says these shocks are not designed to work at less than 32°F... I'm not techy enough to attempt a rebuild myself, so the first time I had the shop do it and didn't ride again until the weather warmed up... Haven't rode in the cold again until now and I have the same issue after one cold weather ride. But the feeler gauge trick worked great - smallest size I had was .008 and I trimmed it down a bit after reading the other comment about that. I was pretty careful and there are no scratches on the shaft. The negative chamber purged just like your video and it's all good now!
@thepedaltech5 ай бұрын
Yeah I’m sure the cold weather is not playing well with the rubber seals letting pressure bypass to the negative

Technically it could scratch it. Although I have never had it happen. If you had a thin piece of plastic. That would work best!

Hello bud, thank you for this very helpful video. Can you please educate me as to why it must have a MTB style / Cane Creek headset, and not the tapered bearings that come as standard on the surron ? Having spoken with a couple people locally and reading on forums online, some people suggest just sticking with the original tapered bearings when doing the Fox40 upgrade. I am in the middle of this upgrade right now and the tapered bearings seem to tighten up and operate as they should. So just wondered if it absolutely essential to swap these bearings and why that would be. Thanks !
@thepedaltech7 ай бұрын
You can stick with the tapered bearing if you have the drop upper clamp. If you have 27.5 fork with flat upper clamp, you have to at least change the upper bearing to reduce headtube length as the fox 40 stanchions are not long enough for that stack height. And no you can't just slide the fork legs up like a moto. They need to stay in the exact place they came. Watch my Marzocchi install video and I may explain it better there.
@thisisme75875 ай бұрын
Definitely. My sons mate trashed his bottom bearing in a crash. Its not rated to ride hard.
