Thank you for posting this video! I had a beautiful China Doll back in the 70’s. It thrived and grew vigorously until my new roommate’s cat started using it as her litter box 🤬. I finally found one several months ago. She’s not growing as well as my first one. But I still love her dearly. I could use any advice you can muster. I live in Granbury Texas. I have one east side window and several west windows. She’s currently in a self watering container and is doing better than when I first got her. Thanks

I have found it to be a heavy drinker but the roots don't like to be in standing water. It's back outside for the summer but only gets morning sun. In the winter I kept in front of a south facing window.

Please please please look to see if they are a species and/or variety Indigenous to your area. The very first steps of the mutant colonizers on this side of the planet involved the beginnings of forever changing and the still never ending destruction of the biodiversity within and on and of these lands, as their shoes/clothing/ships carried harmful and deadly diseases, invasive microorganisms, harmful bacteria, and so forth; not to mention the rats and worms and bees amongst other insects and creatures that soon swarmed spaces that had only just been living in perfect equilibrium. I only share this because I bought seeds for a plant I’d seen a neighbour has and was eager to plant them until seeing they’re not only invasive but their spread is essentially impossible due to the sheer volume of seeds it grows and disperses. Safe to say I’ll be planting them indoors if anything; they say ‘the more you know’, but I say a person doesn’t know what they don’t know because they don’t know it yet! Happy gardening! (I live where winters IN MY LIFETIME used to be consistent 6 months per year - wintertime falls in the same window but the cold/snowpack/days of thawing and freezing are much more extreme and common than ever before, therefore the heightened risks of disease and invasive pests/plants spreading is only growing. For example the boreal forest fires are more explosive and expansive wherever winter conditions don’t maintain a consistent -35 cold for one week at least because of not, the invasive pine beetle does not die and continues to spread further beyond the mountains and into warmer hotter spaces… since the pine beetle drains all trees with needles of their water therefore sap, they not only stand as decaying mummies but the environment relying on them dries up too, leaving extreme amounts of kindling in its wake. And don’t fail to notice: Indigenous peoples maintained controlled burns for 10s of thousands of years on these lands yet in 500 years the western hemisphere is showing the results of exploitation and extraction of resources, peoples, and traditional knowledge systems as complex as this place. Consider planting a medicine garden Indigenous to the territory you reside in, and watch the natural world come to you🤓🤙🌱)

When shopping for plants the seller for me is non toxic for my kitties. So this China Doll plant came home with me and I didn't know anything else about it at the time of purchase. It's tagged as house plant I had no idea it was a tree or that it was such a fast grower. I cant believe how much it's has grown in a year and I have trimmed it down a couple times. I have not had a successful propagation though. I noticed this plant doesn't like like to be moved around a lot. Pick a spot and keep them there or they may drop leaves. Also gets fussy when a repot is done and drops leaves. Mine has a light and grows indoors year round very bushy and loves a good regular misting.

I am on my second China doll plant. The first one didn’t get very big, and died. The second one is doing great and is about as big as the one in this video. She’s trying to turn into a tree, but I live in sunny Southern California and I am worried she would die outside in the sun. Apparently, China, doll plants are nontoxic to humans and pets which makes them great to have around the house.

My China Doll was purchased when my son was in Pre-k (4years old) and now he’s 13, so it’s about 9 years old! She’s VERY leggy and does really well when I put her outside BUT she is now over 10 feet tall (the room she’s in has cathedrals ceiling). She was super full since last summer but has recently decided to drop her leaves. It started out as a 3 inch little sprout that looked like parsley. It definitely IS a tree- mine has bark on the bottom! It’s a non-toxic plant and makes lots of oxygen. Propagating isn’t easy. I’ve tried several times with no success but I’d love to see if you’re successful.

At the very beginning of this particular plant journey (I've had a few short stints previously years ago but not anything like this go-around), I purchased a China Doll based solely on her beauty and grace. I had no idea how to care for her. I jumped on KZbin and viewed a few videos, and found that they like to be kept moist. Unfortunately, I loved her to death by water. She drowned 😢 and I felt terrible about her death. I didn't go so far as having a funeral for her, though, but she was laid out for a month or two. 😅 Just last week I was lucky enough to find a few at Lowe's and got two so I'd have better odds of keeping one alive. So far, so good. However, it's only been a week. I didn't realize that China Doll's were popular in the '70s, then their popularity dwindled. It truly was love at first sight for me. I listened to several videos last night and heard that humidity, proper watering, and lighting are major factors in keeping her happy and keeping her away from direct contact with windows as well. So my beauties are in my bathroom and sitting on the counter with my little humidifier going. Once I get some more plants in there, perhaps the humidifier won't be necessary. I love your idea of getting a conversation going within a little community here on your channel. That would be way 😎! Let's do it. Get this show on the road!! ❤ 🎉 😅 I'll subscribe.

Hey there I have some tips for you ! Calathea orbifolias love bright indirect sunlight so a room with windows but keep them a few meters away and don’t move them about too much. They are the biggest drama queens even with the smallest changes. They love Leca clay so I recommend repotting if you don’t have new growth and leaf sprouting to Leca clay balls. If you have any more questions let me know 😁😁

We've had ours for about 3 years now and she is pushing 9 feet and very thin. We put her outside in the spring and summer and she thrives. She loves water but seems to be drought tolerant to a certain extent. She does exceptionally well in partial sun and full sun for a few hours in the West Texas summer heat when it is 100-110 plus outside. We were think of topping her pretty low and see if she sprouts off any new growth.

I am in Melbourne Australia and have a China Doll I am about to plant in the garden. She is currently over 7ft tall in her pot. I put mine in the yard last summer and dug it up for the winter and put it in a pot and brought it into my garage. It grew like crazy. It developed a long tap root and I wasn't sure it would survive being brought back inside but so far so good. I will take it back outside in the spring. I have no idea what I will do with it next winter as it will be too large to bring inside again.

I was given one from a greenhouse, they were just going to toss it. It barely fit in the car when I got it and looked healthy so not sure why they were going to toss it. I didn’t see anything bad in the plant so in the house for winter it went. It was last year when I got it. It grew so good over the winter, only dropped a few leaves. I trimmed it a few times and still going strong. I am in Missouri so I put it out this summer and it’s still doing good. I have tried to propagate it by the stem cuttings but never had luck the times I have tried it. I have probably tried 4 or 5 times. Ours looks a lot alike. ❤always pushing out new growth. Very full at the bottom as well.

Still some left in my 12 yard pile. And still a house over full of plants cats and dogs.

Gads finally getting back to your video. I got a new computer yesterday and had to start over with everything. I am sure you know as every one else the drill on that. Then I realised all my video stuff was of course on my old machine. Neded a new intro anyway. BUT I thought I would go for better editig softwaer. Well in the end I am right back where I started and hoping to catch up on the more fun things I missed. LOL You have Manni and I have Thelma and a Louise Eve Tiger lily Crazy l Legs and Flower. Some stand some hang. Mosaics are my passion next to animals and plants. I beileve those death plugs stunted several of my plants and now when ever I do get a new plant I search for them. I HATE to have to pull the roots apart to do so and am as careful as can be. some times just using tweasers to pull the paper or mesh apart between the roots leaving the roots intact. Tedious project. And some of those plug coverings are very thin and hard to see. Especially for older eyes.
