The numbers that people think are "normal" are fucking hilarious. Like "bruh, it's just 285! You can get there after a year bruh!"....yeah, maybe if your father is The Mountain from Game of Thrones and your mother is an Amazonian. They also assume everyone is a healthy 22 year old, as if those are the only males in the population you're ever going to run into on the street.

1 in 10K seemed low, until I broke it down: 1. Half the population is female, statistically very few of whom can do it, so adjusted odds 5,000:1 2. Some portion of males are young or geriatric, so adjusted odds 3,300:1 (estimate) 3. 2/3 of the world doesn't really have adequate nutrition to eat for hypertrophy/strength, so adjusted odds 1,100:1 Yeah, 1 in 1100 adult, non-geriatric first-world males able to bench 315 sounds close.

Sounds like too much wasted strength on warm-ups leading to the PR… he probably could have benched 340 or 345 with just a bit less “heavy warm ups”. 👍

OK I need to comment on this. First of all, I have to say you plug or transition into your subscriber. Numbers was funny. Well done. As far as this whole thing I keep hearing about with benching 225 pounds, I think really what you need to do is change what you say. Instead of saying that .08% or whatever number CAN bench 225 you should just say that .08% DO bench 225. Also, it should be broken down to active gym-goers. When you just take it from the entire population, of course you are including everybody. You are, including the elderly, physically sick people, mentally disabled people, women, children, infants, malnourished people, and people who just simply do not have any desire to go to the gym. Clearly, Kevin Durant CAN bench 225. I would imagine that he could probably bench close to 400 pounds if he really wanted to. He doesn’t put any effort into it because it’s not necessary for him and he doesn’t care. I mean, look at you. You’re in great shape, but you’re a lot smaller in comparison to somebody like Kevin Durant...as are most of us. The reason that you bench 225 and he doesn’t is because you benchpress regularly. You can’t tell me if the two of you went to the gym together in the end you would be able to bench more weight than him. No way. I’m about 230 lbs and I’m probably twice your age and can bench three plates for one rep. I am not a bodybuilder or even a consistent weightlifter. I used to go to the gym a lot when I was younger, but the guys in my gym, unless they were beginners, were able to bench at least 225 pounds. I didn’t even get to feel like my 315 was special when I first hit it because there were guys in there that were doing 405 for reps like it was nothing. I had a guy ask me one time to spot him and I walked over to the bench with him and he had 335 pounds on there. He was a lot bigger than me so I was pretty proud of myself that he needed me to spot him for what my max bench was, and then it happened. He moved his hands all the way in about 4 inches from each other to do close grips. That was a very harrowing experience for me. It’s about 20 years ago and I’m still getting over it. Point is I’d like to see what statistic there is for active gym-goers free of inhibiting health issues between the ages of 18 and 45 that incorporate bench press into the regular workouts that are able to bench 225 pounds. I’m going to bet that that number jumps from .08% so probably over 50%. And the only reason it wouldn’t be higher than that is because there are some guys that just don’t weigh enough. For example, I’m 6’3” 230 pounds for me to bench 225 is a lot easier than somebody who is 5’7” and weighs 171 pounds. So it’s all relative, but even at that I think the number would be astronomically higher. What do you think the number would be?

Body weight plays a huge factor in benching also imo if you aren’t actively working toward improving bench press you will likely not move up but that goes for anything.

Your math on that pre-workout metaphor is way off. 1/4 of a 1/40th of pre-workout would be about 0.6% of the whole, which would be close enough if the number of people that could bench 225 was 0.8%. But the number of people is 1% of that number - 0.0083%, according to what you show on screen
